These sacks are not completely "waterproof". I would not use them to protect a pda or cell phone when out canoeing. However, they are fairly water resistant, great for putting a wet bathing suit into or to keep your packed clothing dry in a drizzle.

You get what you pay, and this is true of the Outdoor Products dry sack. I just returned from a one-night backpacking trip and was out in a thunderstorm. I put my food in the orange bag (sealed it) and then put it inside the green bag and sealed that down. Hung my food bag, thinking it was dry til morning. Nope. They have a stiff flat metal piece across the top, you fold the top over a few times and click the buckle to fasten.

The green one is large enough for a pair of large size (mens 11) adult shoes. The orange one will fit a mens t shirt, a pair of shorts and some socks with a little stuffing. The blue one is good for toiletries.

Overall, great for the price, but not a something I would trust to keep my electronics dry during a dip in the river.

I put my food in the orange bag (sealed it) and then put it inside the green bag and sealed that down. Hung my food bag, thinking it was dry til morning. Nope. It rained through the night and completely soaked through both bags. Not a stitch was dry. Both bags were dripping wet inside and out as if they were made of cotton. You can do much better for just a little more money, and your food will be dry. Thank goodness I was only out for one night.

I thought the price for dry sacks was too good to be true - and I was right. These are ALMOST dry sacks. 1st trip out everything inside was moist - not wringing wet, but moist - nothing more enticing than a handful of soggy wet tissues. DO NOT USE to keep electronics dry! Best use is after the fact to store wet shoes or clothes for the trip home. Of course a plastic grocery bag does the same job and costs less. Disappointing purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars What!?! Reviews are like .... Everyone has one., June 21, 2011
This review is from: Outdoor Products 3-Pack Ultimate Dry Sack (Sports)
I wrote these bags off due to the "hey these bags are okay to store items but don't count on them being waterproof". That was my first mistake, i'm like everyone else reading these reviews. Cheap & lazy to a point, [i guess.]

Maybe we want someone else to spend the $$$ and find out its not the item we wanted =) Do our leg-work for us.

Okay so Lets go.

As usual: my better half is to be praised.

She noticed i was looking at these on amazon one day and filed it away. She returned some days later from our local wal-mart with a pack of these dry sacks. =) My reaction was "oh dang, those bags are junk. people said they're not waterproof." Her reply was, oh well they're inexpensive or i can return them the next trip i make.

Hmmm..

As i had a staring contest with the small orange box [for the better part of 2 minutes]- I finally said, why not. Besides, I can find a use for anything. Even if its not what i set out for it to be.

I ripped that box open and began the experiment. Took a [huge] Non-environmentally friendly amount of tissue paper and jammed it into the smallest bag. Removed the air much like one would storing food in a freezer bag. sealed it up & completely submerged it under water by weight of 20lbs (its what i had handy.) I then returned from watching a 30min tv show. Removed it from the dunk. Dug into that bag like it was Xmas. Only to find....DRY tissue paper!?! What!?! but this cant be??? People said these bags arn't waterproof. The PEOPLE said so. This couldn't be. Took that same tissue paper (still dry)... you guessed it, on to the next larger bag. Same test, same result. Last but not least the largest bag...Yep same result. bone dry.

Dry. Dry. Dry.

Even the slightest water will soak tissue paper,am i right? [I'm talkin' pooper paper here]

=( ...but the people said.

I hope you enjoyed this sarcastic review. it was all in fun.

the takeaway is that my beautiful wife gets 2 points & I'm glad i performed this little test on these. Inexpensive, KEEPERS. If i had something so expensive that i MUST keep dry... If your worried maybe double bag them with 2 of the 3 you get. one inside the other. Better yet Ziplock bags or whatever eases your mind. As stated, I DID NOT BUY theses from here. They were a lil' gift from my wife =) via local Wal mart.

Dry. I urge you to do your own testing. First hand knowledge is the best knowledge. Dry. Who knows, maybe the people didn't seal the tops of the bags correctly. =) whoops!

5.0 out of 5 stars Floats Like a Balloon !!, March 25, 2011

Very few things are actually "Waterproof". I inspected these bags at Walmart before purchase and realized that they would not be waterproof in all applications. These bags are not intended for hard use as primary bags for water sports, deck bags, kayak/canoe bags, bear bags, stuff sacks or river crossings. You need a heavier bag that's specifically designed to handle these jobs. If you stuff them hard or with heavy items the seams will spread a bit and the material could tear easily if used as a primary carry bag. Their best use is to keep items dry while stored inside another pack. I use them inside my bicycle panniers or backpack. If I must keep electronics dry, they go in a ziplock then the dry sack. For this type of use they're great because of the lightweight, supple material.

I filled the small blue sack with some dishtowels and submerged it in the sink for a few minutes. It wasn't easy to keep it under - these things float like a balloon!
My dishtowels came out dry - remember to fold the closure down tightly to get the best seal.

I can't believe someone used this for a bear bag - getting stuck on a branch could easily tear it open. Sometimes you have to look past the advertising and use good old fashioned common sense when using a product. A great deal for $10 at Walmart!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Drybags!, August 12, 2008
I took these along on a week long kayak trip to the Apostle Islands in northern Wisconsin. The three different sizes were nice for organizing different items, e.g., toiletries in one bag, books in another, fire starters, lighter, etc., in another. The different colors made it possible to avoid the "Which bag did I put that in?" syndrome.

Construction is very lightweight urethane coated nylon with taped waterproof seams. The bags are so light taht they may not last more than a few trips, but at the price, they're worth it so far!

3.0 out of 5 stars Depends what you're looking for, September 22, 2011
This review is from: Outdoor Products 3-Pack Ultimate Dry Sack (Sports)
I'm ambivalent on these bags. I wanted to say that they're good for the price since I got three bags for $10 at a local store. On the other hand, they are replacing some 1 gallon Ziploc slider bags which are much cheaper, and superior in almost every way.

The first thing I did when I got these dry bags when I got them was wrap a paper towel around a roll of duct tape, drop it in the smallest bag, seal it, and throw it in the bathtub for an hour. It floated like a champ. When I pushed it completely underwater some bubbles came up, but I think that it was just air trapped in the rolls of the seal. After an hour of bobbing around, I fished the bag out and found that the contents were dry. The closure, however was soaked, and I would not be surprised it would let water in with prolonged exposure. If you hang this sack rightside-up in a rainstorm, for example, your stuff will probably get wet. It might not if you hang it upside-down, but then the closure is also the handle, so it's a noodler.

Just for kicks, I tried the same bathtub trick with a Ziploc. The seal was tight, and the stuff stayed dry. You can also see through it, an advantage I underestimated before I went fishing for a first aid kit in an uncomfortable spot on a trail.

The OP sacks look way cooler than a big Ziploc bag. They also basically work, and should be fine for light duty, extra protection (around another bag, maybe), or simple organization.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great as a "wet bag" for cloth diapers, March 25, 2011
By
This review is from: Outdoor Products 3-Pack Ultimate Dry Sack (Sports)
I use these in my diaper bag to carry dirty/wet cloth diapers in. LOVE THEM! I've never had a leak and you can't smell anything either. Even after 18 months of use they don't smell inside. I've never had to wash them even. I would have if I ever noticed them smelling, but I haven't. I'm very happy with my purchase. Even after we are done with diapers these will come in very handy for wet clothes (from messy kids) or wet swim suits after a trip to the pool/beach.

Got them for my husbandin Army to take to the field. For his use the smallest was too small. And he would have liked one more a little bigger. If size assortment were adjusted would definitely order from thes company again. They were fast and did what they said they would.

Okay if you have never used a "diddy bag" then you may be surprised in the size and intended use. They are great for organizing gear and going through things in the pack and quick and easy. A good stuff sack is very handy and a great time saver. I would recommend getting two packs for each backpack. I am an avid backpacker. However, I would not at the price listed here. They are usually about three dollars and fifty eight cents at other stores. I bought some just the other day at Walmart no less. No don't get me wrong Amazon almost always beats the price hands down, hence the reason I am shopping here, but save yourself some money.
Further note, they are actually pretty small. They will not do for packing a sleeping bag or clothes to much use in them. They are for organizing other smaller gear. Check out the pictures posted with the dollar bill.
Good luck and happy shopping.
