4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent pack--especially for the price...
I used this pack for a 3-day "hut-to-hut" trip in the White Mountains. I found it very comfortable (I'm a 5'5" woman) and easy to pack. A couple of comments re: other reviews. As for the side pockets, it is true that the compression straps go OVER them, but you can pack water bottles and other things in there first, and then tighten them. Also, the pack is set up for...

Although the pack looks OK at first glance, a seam at the top ripped the first time I used it....I'm returning it.

Also, the pack is set up for a hydration bladder--great idea! There is even a clip for the mouthpiece right on the shoulder strap. Also, the pack has a zipper running down its length (under the padded compression area on the front) which would allow you to find items without unpacking everything. All in all, an excellent "entry-level" pack--that is, you don't want to spend a fortune on equipment when you're just starting out! You might only use it once, and for that, it's a great deal. Then again...you might still be using this nice medium-sized pack years from now!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Pack for Hostelling, August 27, 2008
This review is from: Outdoor Products Pinnacle Internal Frame Backpack (Sports)
I recently went backpacking in Italy for a month and was very concerned about getting an affordable pack that I could lug around easily. This backpack is perfect for youth or a smaller woman (I am 5'1"). It carried everything I needed comfortably, though it's true I wasn't camping. Straps do go over the side pockets, but are adjustable so it's easier to take stuff out than slide back in. It is a top loading bag, but I didn't realize until I got it that it that there is a zipper up the middle, so you can either reach in from the top, or lay it flat and unzip and take things out from the bottom or middle. At any rate, I was very glad I took a backpack and this one fit my needs comfortably. Though I am no longer buying from Amazon.com since they continue to sell animal fighting magazines, I have no complaints about the bag itself.

Similar to the other reviewer, my seams ripped the first time i used it. I don't like top loading as well, but it seems pretty common. Would avoid and spend an extra $20 and get something else.

It does fit into carry on regulations, however.

This is a very nice backpack for a very nice price. The material is a little thin for my taste, but it has a lifetime warranty. This makes this product even better. It is very light and can be used with a bladder in order to stay hydrated while hiking. Overall this is a very good pack. I recommend using it only for very short trips (1-2 days). It is not super big, but has many pockets and loops for storing gear. If you are looking for an economical small backpack, this is for you!

For a bag which looks so flimsy this is one tough piece of equipment. It carries everything you need to go on solo treks in the himalayas. It held up even when I did some fast descents with a full load (about 20kilos) I plan to buy another one just in case they phase out the model.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific medium sized pack, July 17, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The Pinnacle by Outdoor Products is an extremely durable and light weight pack. The suspension is very comfortable and fits youths and smaller women but also fits my 6 ft. 2 in., 200 lbs body very well. My torso is actually longer than is recommended by the manufacturer but I still find it comfortable. This purchase was for my second and third Pinnacles, for other family members. For the price and size it definitely can't be beat and I would say it is the equal of ANY pack of its cargo volume.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent outdoor backpack, January 29, 2007
It has a middle volume but can contain many things. It is very suitable for a short-time outdoor use.Although it just has two pockets, a primary one and a mini one on the top, it's enough. It's very fast, I believe it can never broken with a regullar weight.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great all-round pack, March 22, 2011

I have owned one of these packs for four years and couldn't be happier with the experience. I use it for everything, primarily travel luggage. When it isn't entirely full, it fits into an airplane overhead bin nicely. The top flap pocket is useful for things you need easy access to, and I usually tuck a book or magazine behind the outer compression panel. Highly modular, I usually use it without the internal frame or waist strap, and with the bottom pocket compressed. the compression straps are a bit weird, when tightening they alternate front to back to front, but that is a small annoyance compared to the overall capability of this pack. Reasonably water resistant, too. Could be lighter weight, probably couldn't be a better deal.
