I love, and buy a ton of stuff from Amazon, but a problem is that there often is a lack of specific information on the products they have for sale.

I just received these gaiters and they seem to be very well built. Here are measurements:

-They are nine inches tall (large/xlarge size).

-I installed them on my Men's size 10 Vasque Clarions. The Clarions are seven inches tall at the heel. The top of the gaiters come to 12 inches from the floor at the heel. I think this will give me all the protection from snow that I need, especially when the snug elastic top is considered.

-Unless you have very small feet, I recommend getting the large/xlarge size.

These gaiters worked excellent.
Pack cloth stops sharp thorns and washes off with ease.
Fit my boots perfectly.Easy on easy off. I leave mine on my boots rolling down the top.
Velcro fastenening system stays secure even when you snag it on brush etc.
No dirt, sand, sticks or ticks get through these.
Well worth the money, well made, durable.

I bought these primarily for keeping rocks out of my shoes while hiking and they did that just fine. I had a nice fall in a stream and while my pants got completely soaked, by feet stayed nice a dry. I'm a women's size 10 shoe (41 Euro)with muscular calves. The sm-med go to size 43 and the lg-xl start at 41. I thought since these are men's I would get the small-medium. I know they're supposed to be snug, but they aren't adjustable and dug a bit more than expected at my ankles-- this is nothing wrong with the gaiter, just a warning that you may need to order up in a size if you're on the cusp (or buy them in a store and try them on).

If you conduct field work or do a lot of outdoor activities, you may know that at the wrong time of year, it sucks to be around annual grasses or sharp vegetation. Grass seeds will get stuck in your boots and ruin your socks and other plants will stab you. So here's your solution: buy some gaiters. They strap onto your boots and cover not only your boots, but also your socks and your ankles. These particular gaiters are a great buy, as they go on easily and stay firmly in place. The strap goes under your boot and the front of the gaiters are lined with velcro. These close on each other, but then there are also two more velcro strips, one at the top and one at the bottom, that also cross over for further holding power. Finally, there's a clip in the bottom front of the gaiters that clips onto your shoelaces. Get all this stuff in its correct place and these aren't going anywhere until you take them off. And the best part is that you will no longer have to sit there picking seeds out of your boots and socks! If you spend time in the field or around grasslands, you need these!

These gaiters are made by people who know what they're doing. When you can slip into these low gaiters, over some waterproof, 8-inch black, Magnum boots and stay dry for an entire night shift of slogging through wet snow, you've really got something. Other pluses - when you're back in the truck they don't make your feet hot. And, best of all, I'm a big, 245 pound guy delivering heavy footfalls to the boots and gaiters -- and at the end of the work shift they are EXACTLY in the same position in which you put them on. No slippage, no creeping, a perfect fit. The front hook on the gaiters snags onto your bottom boot lace and the Velcro strips and cover flaps are just excellent in design and function. Have given two as presents already.

Outdoor Research has slightly changed the gaiters since my original pair purchased over 10 years ago. The new gaiters were purchased to replace my original set that no longer had any "stretch" to the upper elastic cuff. I wear these gaiters primarily to keep debris out of my boots while hiking trails in the Smokies--both the old and the new ones do an excellent job of that but the new design has problems. Let me describe them....

The new design gaiters still have a full-length Velcro fastener along the front but no longer have metal snaps at the lower and upper ends. Instead, they've gone to a fold-over Velcro tab/flap that is awkward to grasp because it is so thin and the Velcro runs all the way to the edges of the flap making it hard to pull free. Getting these open with gloved hands would be all but impossible. They need to extend the closure tabs or attach a finger-pull on them.

Another design flaw is the placement of the bottom-front laces hook on the outer layer of the front closure. With the old style, the hook was on the inside layer and you could hook it to your laces and then it stayed in position while you stretched the other side into place to fasten the snap and Velcro closure. The end result of this change means that putting these gaiters on is more difficult than it was with the old style. I curse them every time I put on/take off my boots--primarily because of the small Velcro closure tabs at the upper and lower ends of the front closure. If you have problems with finger dexterity (arthritis) then you'll not like these gaiters.

The new sole strap (goes under the boot to hold them down) seems to be an improvement over the old style grommets with manually-cut string ties.
