Really heartfelt stuff,
By A Customer

Naturally, the first reaction to hearing Just Jack is to assume its the Streets' twin. Unlike the Streets, though, Just Jack goes further than just talking with some background beats and happens to sing the lyrics. The songs are much more complex than most radio stations would have them be, most notably the ninth track (one of the best), as well as other standouts like tracks six, ten, and eleven. It has a very smooth feel to it (a nice counterpoint to the Streets' jaggedness). Basically, the four aforementioned tracks alone make this CD five stars.

Deserves to go far,

I first heard this album courtesy of DJ Angola (NYC) who had been given it by a British contact, and had to get my hands on it immediately. Bought the import of amazon.co.uk in the end and having been singing his praises to everyone I know am delighted to see the album on general release in the States. I think Jack has a very unique sound and the resemblance to the Streets is fleeting. I love that he doesn't take himself too seriously, which is how I choose to interpret some of the cheesier lyrics...
I highly recommend you buy this album. I haven't played it to a single person who didn't like it. It will be a great addition to your collection (get the version with the Lullaby/Snowflakes mix - as a huge Cure fan this was the icing on the cake!)

Sommer Cruise,
By Jakob Lagerstedt "Swede" (Australia) - See all my reviews

I just edited this review and gave it 5 stars instead of 4. I never heard of this guy before I listened to the album in the record store. I recognized the style as a mellow hybrid between the Streets and bands from the Bristol period (Earthling, Massive Attack, Faithless). It's more laid back than the Streets and all the songs have a simple structure with catchy choruses. It can get a little one-dimensional, and all of the songs follow a very similar formula, but his cool blend of hip hop and lounge makes this album listenable all the way through. Jack's lyrics are, although not mindblowing, "streetlite" philosophical and the first half of the album is really strong. Excellent for summer cruising.
