Outlander: Captivity kept me captive to read, September 19, 2000
By A Customer
A marvelous book about a future after a horrific war. There are three groups of survivors, the Army, the Shepherds and the Women. The book revolves around an officer from the army who was brought in by the women and their attempts to adjust him to their lifestyle. Konner is the captured officer is recovering from wounds after deserting the army. The women of the house of Meagar take care of him and try to convince him to stay on with them as a citizen of the community. Konner finds out some truths about the male chauvinistic army, but also manages to point out flaws in the amazonian lifestyles of the band of women. The characters are well thought out and all show their individuality and separate drives through the book. It is well written in what could be and goes on to prove about the more things change, the more they stay the same. An excellent read, but one that is tough to find now. In a sci-fi setting, the book attempts to examine the roles that gender plays and shows how it things could be, both the successes and the flaws.

Clever, Thought-Provoking Sci-Fi !, November 5, 2001
I stumbled onto this Great piece of SF/sociology several years ago and loved it from the first. Not only is it intruiging in its SF setting and conceptualization of a gendered society, but there are dozens of "little" linguistic wonders sprinkled throughout the book: "consortagamy" (who could have thought that up??), "a Dopted" (which only took me til the fourth reference to "get it"...) , and the reader's game of back-tracing the names. Clever, clever.
As if the Concept isn't entertaining enough, there are also a dozen or so "insights" into human behavior that'll blow you away ---And make you think. (How do you feel about rape? Is all lovemaking "soft" and cuddly? Should it be? Are you SURE?)
Don't let a few minor "editing errors" throw you. This is a Highly Original, Thought-Provoking Book!
Unfortunately, the original publisher was a DUD! Poor editing, the ugliest cover you EVER saw, and worse marketing killed what should have been a (successful) Trilogy, and rendered the books that WERE published impossible to find!!!

Amazing, April 30, 2005
I have been told by 2 pyschics of my involvement with a Scottish captain in Prince Charlies army. I was captured at Culloden, taken to London and beheaded. I was telling my friend this, and she said" You'd love this book..." As I read this book, I felt old stirrings-- I have been here before. I am not saying I am Claire-- not by any means means, but as the story unfolded, I could feel a kinship with her. I felt a chill as I read certain parts I can't wait to read the next book.
