It's essentially an attempt to tell the story of Outlander, the first book in the series, in musical form.

If you're a fan of Diana Gabaldon's OUTLANDER series, I think you'll really enjoy this song collection. It's essentially an attempt to tell the story of Outlander, the first book in the series, in musical form. The songwriters, Kevin Walsh and Mike Gibb, have managed to stay true to the spirit of the book, including as many of the important elements of plot, character, and theme as they possibly could. Jamie and Claire's love for one another comes through very, very clearly, as does Jamie's heroism. And I laughed out loud in several places.

I received one of the first copies of this CD, soon after it went on sale in August, 2010, and have listened to it many times since! Most of the songs hold up extremely well to repeated listening, in much the same way that Diana Gabaldon's books can be read over and over again. My favorites are "I am Ready", "Could I Surrender My Heart", "Is tu fuil o' mo chuislean" (a lovely version of the blood vow from Jamie and Claire's wedding, sung in Gaelic by two young Scottish girls), "Such a Fool", and the very emotionally intense and powerful "Say the Words", a duet between Jamie and Black Jack Randall, set during Jamie's ordeal at Wentworth Prison.

The performers do an excellent job, and I was particularly impressed with Allan Scott-Douglas, who sings the part of Jamie. He has an amazing range of emotional expression, and in my opinion he "gets" Jamie Fraser pretty well. (Diana Gabaldon has said he resembles Jamie physically as well, and has gone so far as to suggest him as a possible candidate to play Jamie in any future OUTLANDER movie or miniseries.

At first I was sceptical about a musical. I love Outlander and was worried that someone was gonna mess up. The fans are very protective of Jamie and Claire LOL.

Oh! but that changed once you hear the magical voices of Allan-Scott Douglas and Sue Robertson. Also need to make a special mention on Ross Croll because let me tell you, this CD is absolutely spectaular.

I have pretty much listed to nothing else since I received my copy fresh from Scotland!

The song "Safe" by Sue (Claire) brings me to tears because you can picture the book scenes matching with the song. The writer/composer was in Claire's head when he wrote this song.

"I Am Ready" by Allan (Jamie) is probaly my next favorite song. It is very catchy and perfect for the scene. Allan's voice is amazing.

*Say the Words" is hauntingly beautiful. Chills my friends. Chills!!

I could review all the songs but seriously, if you are fan of Outlander, you have to have this CD.

Allan Scott-Douglas does an amazing job as Jamie! The lyrics are unique and yet true to the spirit of the story. As a die-hard fan of the "Outlander" series, I was sceptical when I ordered mine from Scotland -- would it do the story justice? Would the performers measure up? Having heard it many times now, I can confidentally recommend it to fellow fans! What a great new dimension for a story so well loved.

I awaited the arrival of this CD with great anticipation, but alas, it made a caricature of the plot and motives of the original characters of Outlander, by Diana Gabaldon. It could have been so much better! It feels like a concept album - not a finished product.

As a longtime fan of the Outlander series and of Scottish/Irish folk music, as well as a little bit of a Broadway snob - okay, I admit it, I admit it! - I did purchase this CD with a few expectations. I wasn't expecting a full-scale Broadway score, but the two expectations I did have in order to be satisfied by this purchase were: 1) It had to stay faithful to the characters of Outlander, and 2) It had to leave me wanting to listen to it again, at least at some point. I wasn't really satisfied on either point, which I will address in detail below.

1: I was not happy with how they handled Claire's motives. In the novel, she did NOT want to marry Jamie. She did NOT fall in love with Jamie until after the wedding. And she certainly didn't know how strongly Jamie felt about her at first - not until he gave her the wedding ring, and the full breadth of it didn't hit her until they were at Lallybroch. All of these premises are stomped on in "Could I Surrender My Heart?" and "Such a Fool."

While the closing lines of the novel left me with goosebumps, the closing lines of the musical induced a facepalm. In the musical, Jamie just got done telling her they'd be living like fugitives, in poverty, etc -- which Claire happily agrees to. Then she adds as an afterthought that there would be three of them. It rings false, makes her sound like she's perfectly OK with raising a child while sleeping in a haystack, etc. As the musical closed I wasn't feeling warm and fuzzy. My thoughts were more along the lines of: "Huh?

I am an obsessed fan of the Outlander series. I purchased the CD and have listened to it numerous times...so many times in fact that I have most of it memorized and can sing along to all songs except the one in Gaelic..that one I just hum to. Anyway, if you are a fan of Outlander and love Jamie and Claire you will enjoy this CD. I have to admit that I love the male voices very much, and don't care for the female voices. Just like the books, you really need to listen to the disc a number of times before forming an opinion. The more I listened, the more I liked it. My favorite cuts are "I am Ready" "Say The Words" "Surrender My Heart"
