Book Description

Harlequin Blaze March 1, 2009

In the rough-and-tumble town of Deadwood in 1876, cowboy Sam Keegan is about as hard as they get. Considered a real sexy piece of man by the local womenfolk, Sam runs the town livery stable. And he was last seen in the company of a pretty gal in a wedding dress, Reese Winslow...who escaped one of the local brothels!

The little lady claims to be a doctor--from the future, no less! Beware of her, as she's causing no end of problems. Mostly for Sam, who is real skittish about the law. But trouble or not, the man can't seem to stop himself from wanting Reese...and learnin' firsthand what women from the future like to do with hot, hard cowboys!

3.0 out of 5 stars Old Fashioned Desire, February 6, 2010
This review is from: Once An Outlaw (Harlequin Blaze) (Mass Market Paperback)
I thought this book got off to a slow start and wondered if it would keep my attention. I continued and it started to take off gaining speed the closer I got to the end.
Sam is a cowboy that isn't used to a 21 century women showing up in his era. He's intriged with her and her ways and especially her clothes (a specific undergarment to be exact). As she adjusts to her current living situation, Sam is adjusting to having a hot, little, spitfire around...and he's liking it. Sam believes he's a bad guy and no one could ever love him and no one should every trust him, but Reese proves him wrong and they both give in to the passion that has been building between them ever since she arrived out of nowhere.
It's not the best book I've ever read but it has a nice build toward the ending and your tradtional happy ending. I'd recommend it if you're looking for another traditional Harlequin Romance. I do plan on puchasing "Once a Gambler" by Carrie Hudson which is the sequel told from Reese's sister , Ellie's, view.

3.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable but poorly paced, September 10, 2011

This review is from: Once An Outlaw (Harlequin Blaze) (Mass Market Paperback)
I'm a sucker for time travel romances and have no problem suspending disbelief to buy into them. In this one, Reese, the heroine, is suitably smart and plucky, while Sam has enough of an edge to keep it interesting. I enjoyed their romance, but probably not as much as I could have. The start is very slow, and it felt like it took too long to actually get into the old west when in actuality it only took a chapter. The ending suffers from the reverse. It was building up nicely, but then went into double-time with too much getting summarized and skipped over in order to get to the ending. A nice read, but not one I'm likely to read again or pursue reading the sequel of the sister's story.
