In Outlaw Heroes, we are introduced to twelve-year-old Will Long, who considers himself launched on the adventure of a lifetime when he is swept back in time to join in with Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. But when a bank robbery goes wrong, Will realizes that the outlaw life isn't nearly so exciting and glamorous as he had thought it was. Written for young readers ages 10 and older, Outlaw Heroes is a throughly entertaining read from first page to last, and would make a fine addition to school and community library collections.

I really liked this "kids" book. I was already a fan of the time period, so it wasn't a far stretch for me to fall under the author's spell with Will. His character is so well written that at times I wanted to just yank him out of the book and give him a big hug, or a hard "talking to." Thanks for another good read, Deanna!

Young adult novel, Outlaw Heroes, by author Deanna Lynn Sletten is a fun-filled adventure story that will capture your imagination. It is a mixture of the real-life adventures of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid with the fictional twist of adding twelve-year-old Will Long. Will is swept back in time to join the adventures of his favorite outlaws, only to soon learn that being an outlaw isn't as exciting as he'd thought. He learns some life-lessons along the outlaw trail that he takes back with him in his real life. Outlaw Heroes is non-violent fun and does not glorify outlaws. It's just a fun adventure with some of our western history's most memorable characters. And it is a refreshing change from the children stories out there today.

This delightful novella retells the story of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, up close and personal. Seeing everything through the eyes of 12-year-old Will, who participates in a train robbery and the Winnemucca Bank heist, and the getaway thereafter, guarantees a lot of action, with hard riding, plenty of shooting, and adventure. But the real strength of the story lies in the evolving relationships between the Sundance Kid and young Will. Will learns being an outlaw is no walk in the park, and at times you might not feel like a hero. The characters are fully fleshed out. This is high class entertainment for adults and young adults alike. I highly recommend it.

Format: Paperback
12-year-old Will loves the stories about the outlaws of America's old west. He especially loves the stories about Butch Cassidy, the Sundance Kid and their gang called "The Wild Bunch." Will loved to watch old western movies with his dad before he died.

When riding on a train with his mom to go to the birthday party of his great-grandmother, Will falls asleep only to wake up in a different time! Will finds himself back in the old west and the train he is on is being robbed by the Wild Bunch! Will decides to tag along with the Wild Bunch (even though the Sundance Kid doesn't want him to) and he is present at some of the gang's most notorious crimes! Pretty soon Will discovers that being an outlaw isn't really that great and there is nothing heroic about it. He just wants to get back home, but how?

I loved the time period of this book (and that it had time-traveling in the story)! I really like old western movies too, so maybe that's why I thought the story was so exciting. I learned a lot about Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid in this book which I really liked. I thought Ms. Sletten showed that outlaws weren't really heroes and that they had a really hard life. Will is an awesome main character. I felt like I really knew him. The action scenes Ms. Sletten described were great and the story kept me reading! There was a little cussing in the book, one or two da** words but nothing more than that. I liked this book so much that when my grandfather asked me yesterday if I read any good books lately, I handed him Outlaw Heroes!
**NOTE I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

What an adventure! The story follows Will Long as he goes back in time to dive into action with outlaws. The Wild West returns and the action is fun to follow. Nice clean, fun adventure that even adults would enjoy. The characters come to life and some good lessons are taught. The ending is done really well. Overall, I really enjoyed this book.

His children's argument over the origins of a pocket knife prompts and incredible story from Will Long's own youth. It all began with a train ride out west and fantasies over Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Suddenly Will finds himself in 1900 with his train being robbed by the notorious gang. When he joins the gang the real adventure begins. Along the way Will is confronted with the harsh realities of life as a criminal and stumbles upon an old family secret.

Outlaw Heroes is a charming, fun, and exciting adventure story. Though it's aimed at young adults, I really enjoyed it as will other adults. The story is a well written quick read that keeps the reader's attention throughout.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it for all ages of reader.
