This is the second Outlaw Star DVD set. It's two discs, containing 9 episodes (10 - 18); mine came in a slimline case the size of a regular case, but some come in a double size case. Outlaw Star is a well-done, if not thoroughly original, science fiction/action show. The basic premise, as set up in the first disc set, has Gene Starwind end up with a highly advanced starship, the Outlaw Star, which is controlled by an artificial girl named Melfina. The pirates who built the ship and a pair named the McDougal brothers, hired to destroy it, are after him. These episodes vary in quality. Some are individual and episodic; others tie into the main plotline, which involves the purpose for building the ship and creating Melfina. There is one bad episode here--the story is poor, the characters go off-model (they are drawn incorrectly), and the animation has corners cut all over the place--but the rest are of at least fair quality. If you liked the more humorous parts of the show from the first disc set, my two favorite episodes of the series so far are on this set. It's not perfect, but it is a good deal and a good show (doesn't every show vary in quality to some degree?). There is a continuing story, so you should start with the first set, not this one.

TAKE THE JOURNEY!,

"Outlaw Star" is in my opinion, a beautiful masterpiece with an excellent storyline and unforgettable characters. The further episodes focus mostly on the bio-android, Melfina, who is still a mystery to herself! Now, the evil Mcdougal BROS. are out to cause trouble for Gene's crew and destroy them in a deadly game of survival! Harry Mcdougal, however, is after Mel for some reason. What could it be? You'll just have to find out!!

This second installment of the Outlaw Star DVD collection is teemed with tons of action, humor, and more information about the main plot of the series. I personally am very happy that each DVD collection has 9 episodes per package, which saves you the trouble of buying a lot of DVD's to get the whole series(this way, unlike the videos, once you have all 3 DVDs your done), even though the price per DVD is raised a little more than your average anime DVD. These great episodes introduce you to the full universe of Outlaw Star, the great Space Race, the treacherous McDougell Brothers, the various aliens of the universe, the murderous Anten Seven(mercinaries of Hazanko, a powerful pirate leader), and the hilarious 'Strongest Woman in the Galaxy' tournament(just as a little teaser, Gene has an odd part to play in this). With all these wonderful episodes, you can't miss when you buy the Outlaw Star Collection 2 DVD. Never mind the price--it's worth every cent!

This DVD is a must have for any outlaw star fan. One of the main reasons I like this series on DVD is because they pack 9 episodes in one package. Coming from someone who had to suffer through purchasing all 8 evangelion dvd's this way was a god send. The animation and sound get a good boost because of the digital quality, but I just love to view it in it's best form. Also I love cartoon network, but they love cutting out seens that in my opinion help develop the characters and story. This series has everything from extreme action to the cutsey romance stuff, and Aisha Clan Clan shown on the cover is all the comedy you need. If all you've seen of this series is the cartoon network version I urge you to check this out. Its also a good anime for amatuer otaku (anime freaks) who just now realize other anime exist beside Dragonball Z and Pokemon.(There cool too of course). Not too bloody and not too kiddie this is an adventure series for all ages

In this dvd collection, the crew is finally fully assembled. The story continues, but still not much of the story is revealed. I have a feeling at this pace, the plot is going to be shown in last few episodes of the next dvd collection. In this dvd collection, the crew is finding ways to make money. Most of the episodes are ways for crew to find work and hope to make decent money. Some episodes are stand alone, not much to do with the story. It's still entertaining enough to watch. The dubbing is superb and the best ever seen in anime. You got to be patient to watch this series, because its slow in plot development. Overall, it's a great anime to watch for audiences into action and comedy. Extras are nothing out of the ordinary, textless emding music, gallery, and trailers.

Outlaw Star is just a cool series, hand down. Assuming you have seen Vol 1, this set seems to just be a bunch of mismatched episodes, but if you go further and watch Vol. 3, it all ties in. I have not been disappointed in this series and this volume, while seemingly not-as-relevant, is fun to watch. The Seven Emerge is pretty cool in a dark kind of way ... while The Strongest Woman in the Universe is truly hilarious. Learn more about Gene and Jim and their travels with Melfina, Aisha, and Suzuka.

Gene and Jim's adventures with the mysterious Melfina, catty Aisha and beautiful Suzuka continue in episodes 10-18 of Outlaw Star as more secrets and plot lines are slowly revealed to us, and more bombshells are dropped as the story starts to come to an end. However, these episodes excuse the countless amount of filler episodes, almost outnumbering episodes that have anything to do with the plot. Outlaw Star Collection 2 contains another set of two DVDs containing 9 episodes like Collection 1 did, in a sleeker, thinner case that takes half the room of the over-sized case that contained the first collection. These 9 episodes from the middle of the series focus on slowly giving us information about the MacDougall brothers and the Galactic Leyline, with several filler episodes in between. Ah, yes, the filler episodes. These fillers nearly make up half of the episodes on this DVD set, with a total of 4 episodes out of the 9 on the set.The video and sound quality continues to be superb as with the previous DVD set, but the menus are almost identical to the quality-lacking menus in the previous Collection. They're still noisy, flashy and hard to navigate. We can only hope that Bandai creates a better menu for Collection 3 which is due to be out in a few months. The extras on these DVDs still lack anything particularly interesting, and also have basically the same content as the first DVD set: An image gallery and a credit-less theme song. The theme song extra we get on the second set is the ending theme, with one small problem. The video is the video from the second ending theme, while the music is the first ending theme. Maybe Bandai should spend more time checking their DVDs for such small errors before publishing them. While not as good as Collection 1, Collection 2 is still essential if you plan to watch Outlaw Star in its entirety, and you'll probably buy it for that fact alone, no matter what I say. Even though Collection 2 has quite a few problems, most which Collection 1 also suffered from, it's still worth the very reasonable price tag, which is extremely low if you look at the fact that these episodes would cost more than one hundred dollars on VHS. |
