5.0 out of 5 stars one of my favorite books of all time, May 21, 2010
This review is from: Outlaw of Torn (Paperback)
I finished reading, or rather re-reading for the umpteenth time, The Outlaw of Torn, by Edgar Rice Burroughs (256 pgs., 1914). This is one of Burroughs' stand alone, non-series, novels. It's a fictional historical novel. It also happens to be one of my favorite books of all-time. I can't remember how often I've reread it. When my emotions get out of whack, I often pull this book off the shelf, lay on my stomach in bed & read it; usually, straight through. This story includes deceit, treachery, lies, violence, death, bloodshed, & hatred with no basis in fact; in essence all the ills society is dealing with today. However, all these evils are triumphed over by innate goodness, love, loyalty, friendship, honor, honesty, & hope. I'll probably continue to reread this book for many years to come, along with my other favorite Burroughs stand alone novel, The Mad King.
