Not a disappointment - her usual expected steamy self!,
By "books-recycled" (Mass) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Outlaw's Embrace (Paperback)
From the back cover His savage Kiss awakened her flesh... But the wheat-haired Sheriff's daughter possessed a proud, gentle spirit that could not be compromised. She would marry only for deep, abiding love - and would settle for nothing less. Not for Adam Buchanan, the town's new physician - whose boyish face and laughing eyes were openly adoring...Not for Avery Carlile - with whom she'd shared so much when they were younger...Not for the sake of her father - who wanted nothing more than his daughter to find the happiness he had lost. Then Logan Tanner rode into town - a gunslinger seeking revenge. His burning blue eyes pierced her soul - and made her ache... For no blaze burns so hot, nor glows so bright, as the flame kindled by desire.

I've read a lot of Francine Rivers' books that she wrote after she became a Christian. They're excellent and show how much she's honed her skill as a writer.
I decided I wanted to see what some of her earlier romance novels were like. I really liked this one in particular. Some of her books are about people with very harsh lives that don't offer me the kind of "escape" I'm looking for when I read. But this book was really entertaining. It is a steamy love story with lots of chemistry and very likable characters. I highly recommend it.

He is a gunslinger, she is the sherrif's daughter...,

Logan Tanner rides into town with only one purpose in mind--to avenge his father's death from the hands of the sheriff, Frank Tyrell...but he meets Tyrell's daughter, Beth. And now he must choose between love and revenge.
This is a really beautiful love story--it tells us how love can change the hardest of hearts.

This is my new, favourite Francine Rivers novel. Writing is her craft, but it's clear from this book that it's also her gift.
The heroine, Beth Tyrell, is a warm, loving character, and kindness itself. Her relationships with the people in her life, whether it be father, suitor, lover or frenemy, are just beautifully depicted. She has an angelic soul, but she's not perfect. She makes mistakes. One in particular, which has dire consequences for her. Despite numerous warnings from her father and well-meaning friends, she falls in love with an outlaw - a dark devil - the classic bad boy! Little does she know (because nobody tells her), that Logan Tanner has come to town to get his revenge on her father. Thus she unwittingly becomes a pawn between her two great loves, her father, and his enemy. There's a part in the book - I don't want to give too much away - when her father is bed-ridden (for a certain reason), where the plot is so clever, yet so simple, that I couldn't put the book down until I'd finished it at 3:30am! It's one of those stories where you feel like you heart's being squeezed and wrung out, where you're still thinking about all the great characters long after you've finished reading the book. As a romance novel, I cannot recommend it enough.

A Fun Romance,

I'm a huge fan of Francine River's Christian fiction and am always looking for something new for her. This book popped up in my recommendations and I wasn't disappointed. It's a fun romance novel that isn't trashy. Rivers knows how to imply without needing to write out every little detail. I really liked that the ending was a bit unpredictable too. Fun, light reading.
