An interesting if unorthodox combination., February 1, 2006
Vocally, Roshell Anderson sounds like a cross between Al Green and Curtis Mayfield. His cover version of Green's classic "I'm Still In Love With You" is near-perfect and the mid-tempo ballads "Sunshine Lady" and "Wild Thang In The Rain" are fine examples of Southern country-soul. When Anderson delves into gangsta-rap-flavored lyrics, however, the music suffers (cases in point: "Shell Shockin' Body" and the title track). Like most other Ichiban CDs of the day, this one was very sparsely but effectively produced.
