Product Description

Most other surge suppressors continue to let power through even after their circuits have been damaged, leaving your equipment exposed to future surges. APC's SurgeArrest fail safe, which means that once the circuit of an APC SurgeArrest has been compromised the unit disconnects equipment from the power supply ensuring that no damaging surges reach your equipment.

I like the form factor of this product.
Dino Leonetti
First, it has 4 USB charging ports; 2 of them are 2.1 Amp which is powerful enough to charge the most power hungry smart phone quickly.
Ronald Souers
Because the outlets are on the side of this it's easy to route power cables behind furniture.

Wall-mounted outlets can't get much lower-profile than this and the APC has two USB ports to charge two low-powered gadgets simultaneously.

When charging higher-powered devices through the USB ports, it has to be done one-at-a-time; the APC can charge an iPad but can't charge an iPhone 4 simultaneously (the iPhone says, "Charging is not supported with this accessory" as the iPad charges; the APC manual says "the USB ports provide a shared maximum of 1 Amp charging current for electronic devices."). I don't know why there's a limitation but thankfully the iPhone charger is a small cube.

The power limitation of the USB ports is the APC's only significant fault. Aside from that, it would have been nice to put the USB ports on the sides of the outlet to keep its profile at a minimum but I figure they're on the front for the convenience of occasional gadget charging.

Installation-wise, you'll need to remove the center screw of your outlet's wall plate before plugging-in the APC and securing it with the supplied screw for stability. Other products I use don't have this screw and can easily pop off the wall when unplugging a power cable.

The APC is a pretty good outlet/surge protector even given its limitations with USB charging.

I like the form factor of this product. Considering the fact that the outlets are on both sides, and that's interesting because that keeps the power cords very close to the wall, I guess it is as low profile as it can be.
APC is a trustworthy company and I have no problems with this product other than the limitation from charging 2 usb devices at the same time, like the other reviewer said. It is well documented in the internet (this was no surprise for me), but it's still annoying.
It looks like nowadays all gadgets are power hungry and charge faster at 1 amp, and there are some that do not even accept reduced amperage.

The USB ports are unable to charge my Droid X or my girlfriend's Galaxy Nexus; the phones "flicker" as if a charging cable were being constantly plugged in and then unplugged.. I don't really mind because I didn't purchase this for the USB capability, and plugging the USB cables into a 120V adapter still works fine.

I like having the ability to screw the mount into the wall as I have another similar product that falls out when I have 4 heavier cables plugged into it. Also, the unit is very low profile and my cables fit on both sides of the unit. I have a small table with drawers that backs up to the outlet and it sits flat against this mount while still allowing cables to be plugged in on each side (I cut out a hole in the drawer for the middle port). Overall, works great for my purposes.

I'm not sure I saw it anywhere in the description, but both USB ports combined only do 1amp. I can charge 1 phone.

The low profile design is nice, but since the plugs are now on the side, many "wall wart" adapters (like the ones I was hoping to get rid of w/ these usb charge ports) don't fit because they hit the wall.

So not a terrible product, but beware the power issues on the USB ports.

This product works perfectly, comes with an amazing protection warranty, and has extremely handy USB ports. I have one of these for the outlet next to my bed behind my nightstand. Because the outlets are on the side of this it's easy to route power cables behind furniture. The USB cables do come out of the front but that is a lot less intrusive than most power cables. The USB ports are only a combined 1A but this thing charges my Galaxy Note 2 overnight without issue.

Saves space without the USB to 120v adapters not sticking out. Looks to be a well built unit, heavy for size
