Truly captivating!, January 27, 2007
This review is from: Outlines (Audio CD)
This album stays in rotation in my CD player, I can't get enough of it. I first heard 'Cold Bones' on the radio and went nuts over it, so I had to get it the next day. I am an underground hip hop head myself, and this album really sparks my creativity in a hip hop context, but it's also an enlightening experience to just get swallowed up by its transcendental grooviness. I wish every club I went to was playing music like this, because it would still make people want to dance but its way more intricate and musically pleasing than traditional 'club' crap. The description above pretty much nails it. Go buy it!

Clutch Post-Electronic Show Jams, June 1, 2007
This review is from: Outlines (Audio CD)
I started listening to Outlines with my buddy who is heavy into electronic music. I am open to all sorts of music from the purest, most organic recordings to completely electronic outings such as this set by Shen (the "downtempo" alias for Native State Records' Noah Pred). My buddy would always put this on after we had charged at various electronic shows (sts9, laptop sets, etc.) and it was always just what I wanted to hear. I knew I had to buy it. Full of easy-to-listen-to textures, sonic qualities, and mellow, soft-snare hip-hoppy beats, Shen is flawless at laying a dense, head-nodding (not-banging) groove. Very consistent, Highly recommended.
