Spur of the Moment,
By
This review is from: Outof the Shadows (Audio CD)
Spur of the moment is one of the most versatile and entertaining bands I've ever seen. Its too bad they didn't include some of the hot tracks that I have the pleasure of hearing them play in the MD/DC area on a bi-weekly basis. "People make the world go round", and anything they do by Earth Wind and Fire are my favorites. Not to mention their own, "In my corner" and others. If you get to seem them, do it! If you're thinking about buying there CD's, do it.

Out of the Shadows is fantastic!!,

After a hard day at work, slip out of those clothes, pour a glass of your favorite wine, light a slow-burning candle, and, either with a significant other or all by yourself, step into a warm, tingly bubble bath and forget the Calgon, let Spur of the Moment take you away..... This CD is excellent from the very first cut -- EZ Street -- which is sooo, soooo smooth. People talk about Maysa's contribution to the CD, which is great on track #6 Longer than Forever. But be sure to check out Kenny Allen's vocals on tracks 3, 9 and 11. And his keyboard talents are especially super on track #2 In Key as well as on EZ Street. Each band member SHOWS OFF on this CD, each one of them! I can't get enuff of sax man Brian, mainly on tracks #7 Tears, #12 For Me and #13 I Believe I Can Fly. This CD is a must-have.

Smooth road West,

I met Kenny when he was 9 years old, he was a pest! If I had any Idea there was that much talent in those hands, I would not have smacked them, I would have kissed them.I got the CD while in Maryland on Vacation, and played it all the way to INDIANA, Now thats smooth! I loved how "Your in my Corner" was the proper love song for the road, totally inspiring. And "Longer than Forever" just did'nt seem long enough. I tell ya, anytime I'm having the out of D.C. blues, "Spur of the Moment" get the nod to the CD player.

Smooth, Sexy and Sensual,

I am listening to Spur as I type this review and it is the most sexy, sensous music I have heard in a long time. I have never heard of this group before I was given this CD and I was totally blown away. At first, there rendition of "I Believe I Can Fly" was my ultimate favorite, but the more I listened to it, it became hard to choose a favorite. "For Me" is excellent,as is "In Key", "Somehow I Know" and others. I can't wait to see them live. This definitely goes to the top of my favorite jazz groups. I'll be looking for some of their earlier work. Keep up the good work Spur. You have a real fan here.

Capital Jazz Lives,

Spur of the Moment has done it again. I used to live in the Wash DC area and I had the pleasure of seeing Spur perform on many occasions. They never disappointed me. With this album, the addition of Maysa and the other vocal and background enhancements, they have taken that necessary step to get "Outside the Beltway". BUY IT! The day will soon come when this long underrated group will be Huge and we'll be able to say we own their early recordings (which, of course, I do).

The catch is Maysa...,
By Torquemada "dunlopilo" (Atlanta, Georgia USA / Madrid, Spain.) - See all my reviews

A well done marketing campaign often yields positive sales results. In this case, the record company thought that it would boost sales to mention on a sticker that Maysa sings on one of the tracks. And the truth is that more than one of my friends directly said "get that album for me", knowing that Maysa was on it.Maysa meets with the high expectations, but that is not really a surprise since she is one of the most exciting vocalists of the moment. The pity is that she only sings on one track, where she could have sung this track, a ballad, and another one a bit more rythmic. But I imagine she (or whoever decided of this) did not probably want this album to sound like one of Incognito. Also interesting are the tracks "Mid summer night dream" (with a Grover Washington like sax), Mo' Better days (this one could have featured on an Art Porter or Jeff Lorber album), and the jamming "Party vibe", together with the opening cut. The rest is a bit below in quality and doesn't call my attention that much, although the cd is technically excellent and this band must be a riot live. Wait and see for the follow-up...

Too Hot for Words,
By Jeff Richards (Phila., PA) - See all my reviews

I saw this group, live in Harrisburg PA of all places . I had to buy their CD when I saw it was available. This is too hot for words ,from the first track this things smokes. I found out that my favorite singer Maysa Leak form the group Incognito is on track # 6. She sounds great , I think if you are into funk or soul, or smooth Jazz this is a must have CD. In fact they should pay me because I have told all my friends about them. It is too hot for words.

I have followed this group for years. They are Washington, DC's hottest live band. I bought this CD upon recommedation of a friend. It is fabulous. It gives you a little R&B, Jazz, NAC and Funk. This is typical Spur of the Moment. If you don't know about them, then you just don't know!

It's got it all!,
By Mint2b "IceAge1906" (Columbia, SC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Out of the Shadows (MP3 Download)
I purchased this CD like in 1998-1999 timeframe while in DC visiting a friend. I brought it after only hearing the first track thinking that alone, was worth the purchase. I was blown away at the quality of music found on just one CD. I loved every track! This CD has it all: great sax, hot keyboards, awesome vocals, smooth vibe, and some jazz funk! You won't go wrong with this one. Here's my surprise, after all these years, I'm still waiting for more music from Spur of the Moment. This one, I clearly don't understand. They have all the tools necessary to make a huge presence in the Smooth Jazz arena. I later found Spuraddict which I also found to be a quality CD. Someone has fallen down on the job of getting this music to the mainstream. Sometimes, word of mouth is not enough. This is a risk worth taking.

Spur of the Moment is by far one of the best Jazz groups I have heard in a while. I had the pleasure of seeing them perform several times at a jazz festival in Virginia and believe me I was not disappointed then either. Keep up the good work fellas!
