"How To Kill Your Career" by Fedde Le Grand, November 19, 2009
This review is from: Output (Audio CD)
Wow, I'm astonished at how horrible Fedde's debut album turned out to be. This is one of those that I saw at my local shop & just picked up, not giving it a proper preview before hand. When it first came out, though it's COMPLETELY PLAYED OUT now I actually kinda liked "Put Your Hands Up For Detroit". I was expecting something like Deadmau5's "Random Album Title", Wolfgang Gartner, don't know, just something jackin' & electro. What the album turned out to be was nothing but a talentless hack stroking his amature ego. This album is why electronic music doesn't sell here in the US. This is the garbage that lines our electronic album racks & people think this is all that's out there (with good reason if this is all that they're exposed to).
First off, no where on this album is anything that even remotely resembles "Detroit". All the album consists of is super cheezy, poppy... well garbage is really the only thing to call it. I wouldn't even call this pop as it would insult even pop music. Every track has some horrible vocal over it, either some cheezy diva, or a horrible rap (something you'd expect from the late 80s/early 90s like some corney MC Hammer, or Vanilla Ice). I thought to myself after the 1st few tracks why would he put all these horrible vocals over his music? The answer was simple after listening a little closer, there was nothing to the music without the vocals. The music wasn't good enough to support itself on it's own without the vocals over top. As bad as the vocals were the tracks would've been even worse without them. Not one song on the album tracked in over 3:30 minutes, not cause it's mixed, just again because the songs are all that bad & not worth listening to any longer.
There is not one redeeming track in the albums entirety to support even a download. I can usually at least find something, at least one good track even on the worst of albums, absolutely nothing here. I wouldn't want to listen to any of these tracks ever again & I certainly wouldn't ever want to hear one of these tracks in a club setting blaring over a loud sound system. There's just not one good thing I can say about this album. To top things off this guys got the nerve to have this pause at the end of track 5 & to then proceed to play what are made to sound like messages off an answering machine having all his big, cool, famous friends let people know just what an awesome, hip hot shot of a person he really is (or at least thinks he is anyway). You know SERIOUSLY, if & when you need to put that kinda junk on an album, (your 1st album at that) after only releasing 1 hit track chances are you should probably be rethinking your thought process & maybe you're not really the Rick James you think you are (nerd). This is just a classic case of someone's ego getting too big and releasing an album when one is really just not warranted at all. He had his 1 hit wonder & has now proven to everyone that that's exactly what "Detroit" was, nothing but exactly that, a 1 hit wonder. Now let's bury this talentless hack...er sorry, Fedde Le Grand's 15 minutes (hope he enjoyed 'em while they lasted) & try to forget this embarrassment of an album (if you can even call it that). Burn every copy of this garbage.
