Great Stuff,
By
This review is from: Outra Vez (Audio CD)
This is a great recording. Laurindo plays beautifully, as you would expect from a guitarist of his caliber. But what strikes me the most is the contribution of Bob Magnusson. This is one of the greatest double bass performances that I have ever heard. The combination of Almeida with his nylon string guitar and Magnusson's melodic DB playing is really something to hear. This is one of my favorites. It's worth the price of the CD to hear the Beethoven/Monk meld.

Um talento injustamente desconhecido em seu País,

This review is from: Outra Vez (Audio CD)
Laurindo foi um músico genial. Infelizmente, nunca teve, em seu País, o reconhecimento que merecia. Fora do Brasil, brilhou e obteve enorme sucesso.

The Soul of Laurindo Almeida,

Laurindo was a genius. His arrangements are top notch, and the depth of feeling is deep. There is "duende", here. The knowledge of life and death. (I think Laurindo was fighting cancer at the time) This is no superficial ego driven see how fast I can play project. It is taking the qualities of form and balance and design of great melodies from the classical tradition and breaking them free in new interpretations with a Latin jazz tinge. There is something deeply satisfying in this music.Laurindo was one of the master of this special genre.

Please put this great album back in stock. The listening pleasure one gets from a music album is synonimous with the intensity that the artist puts in to it, and this album is outstanding with this consideration. For any one who is trying to learn how to play truly great Jazz on the guitar this is one of the best for inspiration and style. He is one of the top 5 in Jazz guitar. |
