Once again, Lakeside released their self produced Outragious album. Unlike the previous albums, it contained very little flare and it was clear that this album was the start of their decline on the charts, due to the fast changing sound of black music (which was more pop/dance oriented and Hip-Hop was also on the rise). 1984 was the start of a dull period for many of its veteran SOLAR artists like Lakeside and The Whispers who refused to attempt to crossover because they wanted more control of their R&B music. Midnight Star, Klymaxx, and Shalamar were the only roster members who were interested in crossing over and were the only hit makers on the label, but Lakeside wanted to keep their sound consistent with their fans (with a few updates), but unfortunatley they were loosing them. The title track was also their last top 10 R&B hit, of which produced a obscure music video of the band traveling around the temple (like Raiders of the Lost Ark) of which leads to Mark Wood finding the treasure, being chased by colorful lighting bolts and obsticles, and being transported to a club with alot of youthful dancers. The second (and last single) "Make My Day" (#37 on the R&B charts) is my track favorite and usually the second choice of song when the band would perform on Soul Train and American Bandstand (during their 1984 performances). "Something About You" sounded a little like Kool & The Gang's "Emergency" (of which came out a few months after Outragious was released) is another great track, but the other songs I did'nt mention were very dull and dated. After Outragious, the band goes on a 2 and a half year hiatus and releases their final proper album, Power (first Lakeside album since 1979 that was'nt self produced and it also proved to be better than Outragious in my opinion). Outragious was also Otis Stokes' (second lead vocalist, bassiest, and prominent songwriter) last album with the band as he leaves in 1986 (reasons unknown) after 11 years.

This is one cd you have to own! If you're into hardcore funk bands, then Lakeside is a group you gotta check out. This is an album that is exceptionally good, especially in a time when great funk music was rare. I would highly recommend this cd for all fans of funk music. It kicks out the jams from start to finish. It also contains some great guitar-driven ballads. "Make My Day" and "Outrageous" are packed with groovin' bass lines! "Worn 'n' Torn" is a rock-flavored dance tune that's guaranteed to turn out any party! Overall, this is a must-have cd!!

definately one of my favorite groups of all time, i'ma lifettime fan, I've loved all the ballads that never got proper airpaly from all this groups albumns, Outrageous is a must have for any collector of any style of music you like. Even though eveyone knows the Fantastic Voyage(FV) albumn, this is one that outdoes FV, listen even if you haven't heard it before, it's timeless in it's appeal, and if you like or don't like it gimme feedbac, and if you do like it, I told you so.
