From the Author

Many businesses struggle when navigating the constantly changing world of online marketing. They're too busy running their business to keep up with the best ways to get customers to find their company online. Yes, there are tons of books that will teach you all you need to know about getting more online traffic, but there really aren't any that simply list the most important steps to take to quickly create the biggest marketing impact.

That's why I wrote this book: to give you the quickest guide to get your online marketing up and running right away. No fluff, since speed is of the essence.

While the title of this book says it's for small businesses, the tips I cover here really apply to all businesses--large, small and in-between. These tips apply to real-world, physical businesses that would love to have more customers walk through their front doors. But most of these tips can be followed even if your business exists only online.

The most important key to success after you read this book is to TAKE ACTION. Do what your competition doesn't know to do or bother to do and you'll get the customers they're leaving behind.

I hope you enjoy these tips and use them to drive tons of new customers to your business!

I got this book at one of the events held by Marc in Seattle, and where do I start? Wow!

Marc gets straight to the point with concise and actionable tips. The key difference between Marc's book and others that I've read is that he gives you 50+ online marketing tips that you can starting using right now, and he guides you around common online marketing mistakes that could actually hurt you in the long run. All the relevant links and tips are shown clearly, which means you don't have to hunt through paragraphs and paragraphs later. This is golden for busy business owners like myself.

Put it this way: if you're not reading this book, your competition probably is.

As someone who teaches SEO online (just click on my profile to find me), I identified this book for two reasons. First, it showed up highly in my Amazon search for `SEO Books,' and second, once I landed on the page I was very suspicious about the book reviews on the site. Read the other reviews of this book, yourself, and ask whether these people seem to have actually read the book, or perhaps or rather general, indicating that perhaps they just loved the author so much they decided to write a generic review about `Outrank Your Competition.'

A GREAT BOOK

Well all's fair in love, war, and SEO, and kudos to the others. They got my attention, and this is actually a GREAT BOOK.
Most SEO books are either pompous theory or too much information, with little action. Most SEO books fail to provide clear, easy links to websites and resources that you can use TODAY. `Outrank Your Competition' does neither. It provides a hard list of fifty amazing things to do to improve your website. Not all are original, but all are well thought out, easy to read, and replete with links to websites and resources that can help you get going TODAY.

EXAMPLES FROM 'OUTRANK YOUR COMPETITION'

Example #1. Get QR codes from Google Places, and put your QR code EVERYWHERE in your business to promote your Google Places listing. Menninger goes on to strongly emphasize that you should pro-actively solicit and encourage reviews from your customers, after each sale, at your place of business, and by email reminders. Great, powerful, easy-to-use advice on getting reviews and thereby helping your business with Google Places.

Example #2. Video Promotion.

This book reads very quickly, because it is so well written and to-the-point. It's not weighed down with chapters of unnecessary history or self-promotion, so you can afford to read the whole text and still devour it in one sitting. I love the format Marc uses, numbering the point of each section, and thoughtfully referring to them in other locations along the way. Even MY notes are useful later, as I continue to implement his excellent ideas. Whether you are fine-tuning your Internet presence, or looking for a starting point, the step-by-step organization of this book will quickly get you where you need to be...AHEAD!

Mark my word... This book is for every type of business owner!

If you are just starting out with your own business or you've been in business and want to take it to the next level, this book will open up unlimited doors for you.

Technology has changed in so many ways in recent years and Marc Menninger's research is top-notch as he reveals 50 tips to explode your business to heights you couldn't possibly imagine.

What's great about this book is that Marc doesn't just tell you where to go and then you have to figure it out yourself. He goes into great detail and offers a step-by-step tutorial with each strategy.

Marc doesn't tell you where to start either. He says pick one of the tips that speaks to you the most and dive right in. You have to start somewhere!

One thing you will find as you read the book is that there's an undertone which reveals Marc's genuineness in trying to help the reader. It's as if you have a coach right next to you offering support.

Personally, I keep the book close to me at all times. It's a great tool to have when I want to try a new marketing strategy.

My favorite tip in the book? Facebook, Facebook, Facebook! This strategy alone turned my business around lightning fast.

Five stars!

If every SEO book was this easy, I would save time. You don't need to cull information from this book, just use and implement the ideas that you see fit. Hands down worth it even for a seasoned pro looking for new ideas. You always miss something, and this book will show you some missing elements. Thanks for writing this Marc.

I compete in both the online world as well as the brick-and-mortar world with my used bookstore. I sell out of my shop as well as online. I use the standard web sites such as Abe and eBay but I have my own storefront as well. But I have not received nearly as many hits as I would like to and I needed help. My brother who helped me open my store about a decade ago but has since moved to other things sent me a few helpful titles, one of which was this one, Outrank Your Competition. He knew I was floundering with my online store but he is convinced I can compete in the online world with rare books (my books are exceptional that I sell on my site, not just "used books" but first editions of writers such as Twain).

I am SO pleased with what I've learned! The author, Marc Menniger, writes with clear language, especially for someone like me who can use computers but certainly is no expert and I SURELY am no expert on boosting my web presence. This is not some "fluff" pamphlet disguised as an "eBook" - Nope this is a jam-packed (almost 200 pages) of information covering all the basics and then the advanced ways I can market myself far better online.

For example, I was using Facebook and Twitter but I was doing it all wrong. I was more of an unintentional spammer than a helpful resource for customers. MAN did I have that all wrong! And instead of a friend page, we created a Facebook Fan page so we can get ranked by Google, but I warn you that you need to do it the right way. Outrank Your Competition will help. Also, using YouTube to promote our higher-priced rare volumes was an amazing thing because who does that on YouTube with ultra-rare books? (We do now!
