4.0 out of 5 stars A bitter sweet ending to this trilogy, August 30, 2011
This review is from: Outreach (The Dushau Trilogy) (Kindle Edition)
Unlike in the two first books of this series (Dushau & Farfetch), which I thoroughly enjoyed, the action here is more static as most of it happens on another plane of consciousness, while a small group of Dushau and the human heroine link minds to communicate with their new world. The world created for this book is rich and highly original. People and animals live in hives and have a collective awareness. The social implications for the colonists create a number of conflicting and dangerous situations. The hero and the heroine of the first two books are still front and center, but some time has passed, and their relationship has shifted. I wanted more for the hero and heroine. I found the ending too logical and bittersweet, although it will satisfy most readers. I must give a warning to eager romantics that this is in no way a romance (fullfilling the promise that no matter what, the hero and heroine will end up together happily ever after). If it were a romance, I would expect a fourth book, where the artificial intelligence entity would return and make everything right again. But maybe that's just me. I'm fiercely partial to satisfying endings... at least in fiction.
