Blue skies shining at me in my Ferrari!, May 1, 2006
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast (Video Game)
What a beautiful little game! This is a minature, updated version of "Outrun 2," which originally appeared on the arcade and XBOX about two years ago. It's a 20th-anniversary homage to the 1986 game "Outrun," which was the first driving game to feature real force-feedback steering. The arcade machine's steering wheel had a powerful motor in it which would pull your hands the other way as you went around tight turns. The PSP version doesn't have that (imagine the impact on battery life?!) but the graphics, sound, music, and gameplay are intact.
This, like its predecessors, is arcade racing in its purest form. If you want to tweak your car by buying new exhaust pipes or pimp it out with new rims and flame paint, you'd best look elsewhere. This is about driving someone else's Ferrari very, very quickly down the expressway, watching the scenery blur past, slowing down only to take the bend in the road to the next leg of your destination. Your lady friend is along for the ride and will find all sorts of interesting tasks for you to do while you motor around together.
There's also a PS2, PC, and XBOX version of this game. Is it worth getting again if you've already played the XBOX version of "Outrun 2?" Does it offer anything over "Outrun" the Sega Ages disc we saw back on the Sega Saturn ten years ago?
I'd say yes. First of all, the asking price is about 3/5 that of other new games for the PSP. Second, it's portable, very much unlike the XBOX or arcade version. Third, and most importantly, the "2006 Coast to Coast" name justifies purchasing this version even if you already have the XBOX game, since a whole lot of fun new modes and features were added, most importantly a "slipstream" technique which allows you to draft behind other cars to pick up speed.
Finally, there's an online mode. Won't you buy this game and so I have some other people to race against? It's a pity that this game isn't getting much press or retail attention. It might even be hard to find.

OutRun... On the ROAD!, May 18, 2006
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast (Video Game)
I absolutely love OutRun and being able to slam onto the road with a ferrari while riding the subway and the bus makes this one of the perfect games for my PSP. I don't just want to RACE... I was to DRIVE FAST and have fun while doing it and with a girl by my side!

A very underated game, August 4, 2006
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast (Video Game)
I seem to recal seeing only one ad, in a magazine, for OutRun 2006 Coast 2 Coast. Then, I heard nothing. I thought that the game had been cancelled then I saw it at EB games in the clearance bin.
After I bought it I was amazed that it had gotten no press what so ever. The graphics were crisp and clean, it sounded great, fairly simple controls, and it only cost me 15 dollars. There are loads of unlockables and I found the game very addictive. Drifting and drafting added to the overal fun of the game. But all is not well in the world of OutRun.
Although online mode is included, I have never used it. Not because I didn't want, but because I couldn't. Due to the lack of press, virtually nobody bought this game, meaning nobody uses the online mode.
Oh well, the game itself is great and very fun. I recommend this to anyone that likes racing games. This is truly a great title for the PSP. (I also highly recommend Burnout Legends, which is just slightly better than OutRun, slightly.
