Instant read...not quite, but close enough. it will take about 2-3 sec to get a final reading, works better if you insert in to the meat then turn it on. the controls are switchs and not buttons so there is less of a worry of accidentally turning it so battery life should last

I HAVE USED IT MANY TIMES AND SO FAR IT WORKS JUST FINE, VERY PLEASED WITH IT.

I bought this on the 4-for-3 sale and have been very happy with it. We BBQ a lot and I am always worried that the meat isn't cooked thoroughly, so this gives me piece of mind. I do like the on/off switch which is great IF you remember to turn it off. I'm afraid that I leave it on more often that not, but luckily the battery continues to live. I think the other reviewer might have just received a faulty unit and could have returned it for a replacement instead of trashing it. I give this 5 stars because I can't think of anything I don't like about it.

Mine wouldn't work from the first moment I opened it. It won't even power on. Could be a bad battery, but this is terrible quality control.

Works well, reasonably fast. A little challenging to read if you have to stick it in flat foods (such as a hamburger patty). I'll probably get a 2nd thermometer with the readout parallel with the probe for flat foods.

It does not get the temperature reading fast enough. I have had a better one.

I received the F800 in good order and time. The battery failed within a week after first usning it. I was very careful not to leave the unit on after using to insure battery life. Perhaps something else failed but the results were the same - - - in the garbage can!
