Very sturdy and well-made.

I love that I could now keep bacon completely flat, and cook very nicely grilled pork & chicken steaks and burgers.

I know that isn't what it is but it just looks a bit like that.

This is a good grill press if your looking for something that's simply made and affordable. The design seems simple and unrefined. When I took it out the shipping packaging the first thing I noticed was how rough the edges were. It was as if the factory took a piece of iron and cut out a circle, then sprayed it with a clear coat spray paint. The edges were unfinished iron. Also the surface of the product was unpolished - just plain metal with a clear coat. This isn't a sophisticated, clean designed press like some others out there.

The press has a glossy clear coat applied to it. Before I started cooking with mine I took the screws out and removed the wooden handle, and placed the metal into the oven and burned off the finish coat. The chemical smell it gave off was incredibly strong. I knew that couldn't be good to have on your food. After that process was done, I seasoned it with vegetable oil and baked it in the oven for a couple hours, reassembled it and now its suitable for cooking.

As far as the actual grill pressing duties, it does its job. Its a good weight and at 8 inches diameter it fits a medium sized pan. The surface that touches the food has grill marks embedded in it. Be prepared to have grill marks on everything.

In sum this is a suitable grill press that requires some conditioning. It's not a well finished product right out the box although it does its job. The old saying is right, "you get what you pay for."

This was the only one affordable with grill capability in use. Weighty, big, nice wooden handle. I deducted one star for lack of instructions. When I put it on heat, I was nearly knocked over by fumes from the finish.

After reading the reviews about grill presses chose this one because it has no screws or holes in the bottom to collect crud. The handle is long enough that you don't burn your hand when lifting from heat and it is attached securely so the iron does not shift and burn your arm or wrist. In addition, it fit the bottom of the pan we normally cook our bacon in. As far as the person who complained because the handle smoldered when they tried to season the cast iron, just set the oven on low like about 170 or 190. Will not hurt the wood handle. To others that complained about rust problems, learn how to treat cast iron utensils and you will not have a problem. Thanks to the other reviewers who pointed out problems in other presses.

This little bacon press has been sooo useful. We used to have a rectangular one and we could never fit it in any of our pans, and this fits our round pans perfectly. It is a good size for medium pans but sometimes I wish it were just an inch or so wider in diameter when using a bigger pan, but I just work with it to make it work for me. Great size for most pans, though! I like to wash it off and then just spray it with Pam to keep it seasoned.

If you like nice 'toasty' grilled cheese and other grilled sandwiches, you may wonder how you functioned without one of these bad boys. I do not use it on an outdoor grill, but inside with my frying pan or other large skillet. Could certainly be used for burgers on the grill (that may even be the product's intention). The only downside is you must wash it immediately and dry it thoroughly or it will rust. Well, maybe a little iron isn't a bad thing!

Just the right size and weight! Wonderful for meats and I even use it on fresh spinach when I first throw it in to help it settle!

I was looking for a Grill press to help me fry bacon. I use 10" cast iron frying pan. This grill press is 8" diameter. I was skeptical about it covering all of the bacon to keep it flat. When first putting the bacon in the pan, it is spread out larger than the grill press, but as the bacon fries it skrinks, so the end result is the bacon fries fast and ends up flat. I am happy I finally got a press to keep the bacon flat when frying. Oh yes, and the handle, it doesn't get hot.
