1.0 out of 5 stars it's good
Now this is how art should be done. I love that a 13 year old can do what famous artists think they can do just because hey are famous. She has as much, if not more talent than an artist educated in Paris.

This review is from: Outside the Lines (Hardcover)
Destined to become one of the greatest artists of the 21st century Alexandra Nechita amazed the world at an early age with her unique mix of a several modern artistic styles. Like many of the great abstract works by Picasso, Chagall, Klee, Matisse, and Miro her work captivates the story of life through the use of vibrant colors and the unique shapes. Even in just the last year you can trace the process of refinement and experimentation that has occurred in Nechita's work. "Outside the Lines" chronicles a large number of her paintings from 1995 through the use of photos and accompanying description, in her own words, of what Nechita was trying to accomplish with the work.

Although my personal tastes align more with the types of work she has been producing in the last several years this book should be on any Nechita or cubist art fans bookshelf. Unfortunately there are currently no mass-published books that cover her more recent works. The only other book available is the one that purchasers of the lithograph pairs of the recent "My Journey" portfolios receive.

5.0 out of 5 stars For me, she's got it., March 21, 2002

I like what I see. I could care less whether some art critic/teacher thinks her work is repetitive or not developing. I love the use of color and her inspirational themes, which I find lacking in the art world of today.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirations of a great artist, October 21, 1999
This review is from: Outside the Lines (Hardcover)
I love painting too, and this book is just the right inspiration for me. Nechita is simply great, her paintings are so profound and spectacular, it is almost hard to imagine that they come from a thirteen year-old girl. I think my paintings are a little like Nechita's. This book is certainly a good buy, and anyone with an artistic flair or anyone who is interested in art should get it. The remarks made by Nechita for each painting are all very meaningful and they all touches one's heart. It is interesting to admire Nechita's paintings, while reading the aside remarks for each of them. One would spend hours reading the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars a real talent..., November 22, 2004
This review is from: Outside the Lines (Hardcover)
There may be some who are envious of this artists skill and there may even be some who genuinely don't like her work. Either way, one would have to be a fool NOT to recognise her immense talent. Anyone who knows any real Artists will understand how themes and colours can be repeated, this is not a bad thing in itself, even the the Great Masters did it, though unfortunately not all of their works survive in order to prove it.

Alexandra should be an inspiration to everyone, (including art teachers) and if everyone had the great fortune to see her work face to face, they'd realize that.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's like seeing Picasso or Chagall at ten., September 24, 1997

You'll be overwhelmed with talents of this young prodigee. You'll enjoy Alexandras' description of each picture which seems to be created from her heart. This little Picassos' work gives us an insight to her young and inciteful wisdom and makes us aware of some of the simple values of life that most of us have lost along the way. This book is a great center piece on a coffee table. Only drawback is that Alexandra has created numerous new pieces that are not published in this edition. That's okay, art collections will anxiously await her next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A True Prodigy, December 13, 2008
This review is from: Outside the Lines (Hardcover)
This book showcases 50 of Alexandra Nechita's best works from when she was 10. I was very impressed with half of the paintings and thought they were truly brilliant; the other half I thought were mediocre but, then again, this is how artists work. Not everything produced by an artist, even by a prodigy, is going to be amazing.

But the 25 paintings in the book I have deemed to be amazing appear to be painted by a mature artist. The themes of all of her paintings are quite childish, which can be expected of a 10 year old, with one of her excellent paintings being about Snow White with another on The Lion King. There are a few based on mature themes, such as maternity and the Oklahoma City Bombing, but most fall into the childish category. But it is the execution of her ideas onto the canvas and the writing about her paintings that truly impress me.

What really impressed me about Alexandra Nechita was the amount of thought that she put into these paintings. The depth of these paintings is extraordinary for a 10 year old and are not simply paintings of flowers or landscapes or portraits that have no emotion. Each painting includes a little writing and this writing proves to me that she is a true artist, someone who is attempting to express the world and how she feels in her unique way; she is not merely a human camera. Since she is an abstract painter color, line and form are her most important elements and in about 25 paintings she does it very well.

Even if these paintings were produced by a 40 year old I would still love them because I love this type of art. I do not care that these were painted by a "prodigy." Sure, she may do the same thing over and over again but at least she does this one thing extremely well, which is more than I can say about most artists. And in reality most artists do the same thing over and over again once they find the style, medium and etc. that suits them. Some may evolve to something different and some may not. Her art has evolved: I can definitely see a difference between her 10 year old paintings and the ones she completed when she was older.

So, if you love abstract/cubist art then this is definitely a book you should pick up. I bought mine for about $8, including shipping, and it was definitely worth it.

This is a wonderful book about a highly successful modern artist. The twenty first century art scene has a new Picasso in young Alexandra Nechita. She is an artist to watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars It shows her style, unique and on par with masters, February 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Outside the Lines (Hardcover)
Outside the Lines demonstrates why Nechita has done more than what most claim to be on par with other Masters like Picasso. While abstract like Picasso, she has a unique style that creates her own genre, one where future artists will learn from but probably have a hard time matching.
