The hero is a jerk, and Sarina is an idiot. She is living in a bario with her daughter because she wants her to blend in? I am getting so tired of the American Indian thing. (I am not as white as the new fallen snow either). Every book the same theme. But....for whatever reason I keep buying them. Except, I do not buy the hardcovers. Ever. It must be because I...

4.0 out of 5 stars delightful second chance at love romantic suspense thriller, July 5, 2006
In Africa on a mission, CIA operative Colby Lane too drunk to establish needed precautions, barely makes it out alive, but loses an arm while escaping. His prosthesis arm is state of the art, but his covert days are over. Needing a new line of work, Colby accepts the position of Chief of Security at Houston branch of Ritter Oil, replacing his friend Phillip Hunter who plans to return to Arizona.

Working on a special project at the Houston office is Colby's ex-wife Sarina Carrington, who normally works at the Tucson branch. They were married for one night of bliss, which resulted in a child Bernadette and years of scorn since he remarried soon after the annulment, but was divorced again. As their feelings reignite, drug lord Manuel Lopez plans to eliminate anyone interfering with his operation starting with Colby; if that means using his daughter Bernadette as an expendable pawn so bit.

OUTSIDER is a delightful second chance at love romantic suspense thriller. The lead couple is an amiable pair that will leave the audience wondering why they were not already together though Diana Palmer provides a plausible rationale. Their daughter is an intelligent delightful child with a special extrasensory gift. The exhilarating story line never slows down once Colby and Sarina meet at Ritter Oil for the first in years and never slows down until the final confrontation with a villain who will kill anyone in his way without blinking.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Outsider" Another hit for Diana Palmer!, July 4, 2006
I found this story to be intriguing. If you have read any of Diana's books that she wrote introducing us to the Mercenaries you would appreciate this one too. The beginning of the story makes you want to read more about this collage of characters and what makes each and everyone of them tick. What is the story behind Colby, the 7 yr. old girl & Sabrina...as well as Rodrigo and so on.
I am over 40 and this book give me what I want...a story about a mother trying to make something of herself as well as keep care of her daughter to the best of her ability. The sexy hero who learns about Bernadette and goes from not wanting to know or have anything to do with the child to wanting nothing more then to cuddle her and love her.
I know this story will not have let ANYONE down or disappointed Diana's ardent fans. It gives us all what we want....a good old fashion romance with some intrigue thrown in as well as a woman who can handle herself come what may.
Keep up the good work Diana and thank you for the work you have done and the work you still have pouring out of your soul.

5.0 out of 5 stars Colby Lane: the ultimate hero, July 4, 2006
By
Let's see, where can I begin telling you how much I loved the book? Mmm, let's start from the moment you grab the book and read the first page!! Colby Lane has been one of my favorite heros for so long, I think since Paper Rose! He is not you regular or typicalhero, he is a wounded man with a past buried inside him, but still, this past comes back in the figure of Sarina and a little girl named Bernadette. He is so intrigued by this unique seven year old that he doesn't see the familiar resemblance in her features and starts a bad relationship with her. Later on in the story, you learn the secret between Bernadette and Colby . You don't see just action but the path the Colby takes to save himself from a lonely future that he will have if he doesn't correct some bad decisions. Diana Palmer is a writer that reads inside her fans and knows what they like and are hoping to see in her books. This book was a big reunion with old characters that we loved in other books and we needed to know more about them!! Looking forward for Garon Grier's book coming next July 2007!!

It must be because I really enjoyed her books before she went to college.

1.0 out of 5 stars Save Your Money..., June 5, 2008

How can one like a verbally abusive man who takes his wrath on a six-year old? And then he had the nerve to go complain because the child was sitting in the canteen! What a moron. The dialogue of the six-year-old leads me to believe that the author has never been around a young child.

Palmer's story lines are interesting, but she really needs to work on toning down her male characters. They are hard to like. And she always puts a male in the picture who is in love with the female character who is everything the female should want. Why should she choose an abusive man over him? Amazon, please put in a zero or minus category for books such as this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Outsider, August 5, 2006

Another good adventure/romance by a prolific writer. This story was the style of Diana's other books with innocent love gone wrong and bad consequences because of it. I especiallty liked the use of the 'sight' of American Indian heritage. Also a life like thread of missed chances and misunderstood relationships. I recommend this book to anyone that likes tough guys and love overcoming all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outsider is another winner!!, July 5, 2006

I loved this book I couldn't put it down. It's the story about Colby Lane and the reunion with his exwife Sarina who has a daugther going on seven. Colby is first shock to have the little girl know so much about him & than to find her mother is his exwife Sarina. I love how Ms Palmer brings back characters from older books. It's like visiting old friends and catching up on their lives. It's a passionate, fantastic story that kept me turning the pages untill I got to the end. I don't want to spoil the surprises in the book but it was worth every penny.

3.0 out of 5 stars I read better from Diana Palmer, May 5, 2007
This review is from: Outsider (Mass Market Paperback)
Well I'm a big fan of Diana Palmer but after reading her last couple of books I'm really rethinking my decision. If I could I would give 2-½ stars for this book. I agree with other readers that all she writes now is about American Indian's. Please nobody should take offence because I have no problem with American Indians more so I like reading about they history she writes in her books. But we need sometimes something different.
Also I find it annoying that she keeps repeating herself as if I would forget the characters situation. And that is not just in this book.
One more thing that I discovered that made me wonder if her book was edited at all, is on page 121 she writes that the hero closed the car door but reading further and suddenly on page 124 the door is open again and he closing it once more. What's more on page 210 she doe's the same between four lines she turns the same shower off twice. I also thought that she could have written more descriptions about the other characters and the surroundings.
Anyway I don't buy her hard cover books any more I'll just wait for paperbacks even though I really love most of her older books. If you like to buy this book as we Diana Palmer fans do, be cautioned that it perhaps not what you expect

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT!!!!, December 8, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am like a die hard Diana Palmer fan. And this one was a good one. It wasn't better than 'Renegade' though with Cash and Tippy's story but it was good. Colby was the perfect hero! Alas! Where are they in real life? Oh well!

But this was a good one. The story line was great with a lot of complications that made it nice. The only thing I had with it is that she had only like one love scene in it and most of her books tend to have more than that.

Other than that, it was a good book!
