"Law & Order" stars Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni in 22 Season 8 episodes heavy on drama. The scripts deal with sex crimes, their perpetrators and victims with often frank language and disturbing, emotionally provocative scenarios. Guest stars in the eighth season include Marcia Gay Harden, Tim Daly, Blair Underwood, Bernadette Peters, Kim Delaney, and Kal Penn.

Ever since I first saw this show, it has been my all-time favorite. I've watched the DVDs several times and never tire of them. The plots usually take several different directions and that always keeps my interest. There is no other show that I've seen where I like all the characters so much. Any one of the SVU DVD sets is absolutely worth the money.

Law and Order--SVU 8th season does not vary too much from the path, it is the most successful Law and Order franchise, the same chilling sex crimes, the fast pace, the personal touch that other Law and Order series sorely lack. You always feel a lot of pain watching the show, since the stories are sickening at all times. The two main detectives Stabler and Benson grab most of the screen time, they are compelling characters, the other detectives are featured on certain shows. Stories are still ripped from the headlines, and resonate well with the viewers. Emotion sometimes outweigh reason on SVU, but that is what SVU is all about. If you are a "Law and Order" Series fan, you might want to grab it. If you are looking for depth, I suggest shows like "Wire"(all five seasons) and "Oz".

Season 8 of Law & Order SVU is a great addition to any crime drama junkies' collection. The action and drama of the episodes combined with the chemistry of the detectives of the special victims unit make for great entertainment! This season includes interesting twists on crimes, special guest stars, legal maneuvering, and forensic work, both technical and biological. I'm eagerly awaiting the release of newly televised episodes onto DVD.

this season is a lot about family and how important it is... this season gets more in touch with the characters and tries to introduce a few new ones... some will stay others will go. But for some young kids there is quite a few episodes that they need to see... everyone knows that drunk drivers are out there and that teenagers drink but hardly anyone shows any new footage... and one of the episodes really puts all that into perspective.

I was a little dissapointed with the last few episodes from the 7th year and thought maybe the show was starting to go downhill...but when I got the 8th year I learned that that was NOT true!! Im only on the 3rd disk but the 8th year episodes are kicking some serious @$$!!!!!
TOTALLY WORTH WATCHING!!!

Maybe these are all starting to run together for me, or maybe it's just that I was lukewarm to this particular season, but I just didn't find it as watchable as the majority of the other seasons. It is the eighth year, and that's a high mark when it comes to ideas and plot-lines.

Law and Order SVU is about the special cases. Those cases of rape, child abuse, and elder abuse that typically deal with hard to face victims and emotional tragedy. They're hard to watch, but because of a generally stellar cast it has become one of the most popular series out there. While you don't have to watch the season in order, it is good to at least try because there's a bit of background on the detectives that you could miss out on otherwise. But the episodes are primarily stand-alone, with each resolving by the end of the episode.

There were a few stand out episodes in this season. "Confrontation" takes a horrible fear of rape, and multiplies it by having the rapist come back again and again for insidious purposes. "Scheherazade" has a killer telling a tale, but drawing it out to elude his own death. But with these episodes come a bunch that after watching the first time, I just skip over them when I rewatch the season. And those are the episodes near the end that involve Benson's half brother plot. I know they were trying to twist things around but it just didn't grip me and I thought her tale better when she didn't family ties. At least the last episode had some pretty big cliffhangers, making you wonder what was going to happen and eager for the next season.

I've gotten several sets of Law and Order SVU DVD's where the labels were worn off for the most part. This set was no exception. I'm getting tired of this. The quality of the DVD itself as far as how it plays is fine but who wants a gross label on something you pay good money for.
