5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Book Series Ever Created!
I really enjoyed this book. Once I picked it up and started to read, I couldn't put it down. I also love the TV show. When the show first came on, I didn't really watch it because I thought it wouldn't be that great. But once I read this first book in the series, I just had to watch the show and when I did, I was hooked. I am now hooked on both the TV show and books. I...

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting premise, needs an editor
I, too, became hooked on the show and decided to check out the books. This first one disappointed me greatly. While I found that the character development was a bit more fleshed out than in the show (Isabel's tendencies, their powers), I think that the writer really needs to go back and review her elementary grammar points. So far, I've read the first three (the 2nd...

I think all of them are great. I've read the first book and I'm now reading the second one. I like the romance between Liz and Max and how they are kind of like a modern-day version of Romeo and Juliet. (Max would be Romeo and Liz would be Juliet). Max Evans, Isabel Evans, and Michael Guerin are teenage aliens with special powers from another world. Liz Ortecho, Maria DeLuca, and Alex Manes are their friends who find out about their secret. All Max, Isabel, and Michael want is to find their way home and to find out who their parents were. Liz, Maria, and Alex try to help them and are sworn to keep it a secret, especially from Sherrif Valenti, who is working on a Roswell alien-catching project. The six of them become connected to each other and all become friends. I think this book series is really good and I reallyr recommend it to anyone! I also really recommend the show, too. P.S., the guy who plays Max on the TV show is really hot!

5.0 out of 5 stars Out of this world book!, January 14, 2000

If you are a fan of the Roswell tv series on the WB, then this book is perfect to get you by those boring nights when Roswell isn't on!

While the hour long pilot episode was simply the greatest thing I've ever watched, the book that inspired the series is 10 times better. Many changes from the series were included. For example, in the book, Liz finds out Max is an alien AT HIS HOUSE, IN HIS BEDROOM!

Ever wonder what it would be like if Valenti was on the trail of the aliens during Homecoming? If so, you have to read this book.

Buy it, sit down and bring a snack, 'cause you won't want to put this book down 'til Wednesday Night!

5.0 out of 5 stars Feeling Alien (Literally) in High School, April 24, 2001
By
"goveritas" (CA Bay Area USA) - See all my reviews
Who hasn't ever felt like an alien in high school? Well, for Max, Michael and Isabel, they not only feel like aliens, they know that they are aliens. The Outsider is the beginning of the ten book Roswell High series by Melinda Metz that brings the reader into a world where an alien could be the boy you never noticed from third grade. The main characters include Max, Michael and Isabel who are orphaned aliens who do not remember their home planet or why they are on Earth. Liz finds out the trio's secret when she gets shot and Max, who has always loved Liz from afar, heals her with his powers. Liz's best friends Maria and Alex soon learn about the aliens and together, the six of them are bonded for life. Metz does a wonderful job blending science fiction with action, heartfelt emotion and modern wit. Each book of the series has its own plot with continuity and closure but enough of a cliffhanger to lead the reader into the next story. In the end, Metz's point comes across clear - that no matter what the differences (even alien ones) between friends, all that matters is friendship and teamwork, and anything can happen!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Outsider, January 15, 2000

This book was great! I agree with one of the other people when they said they liked the descriptions of the characters better on the tv show. The book had a little more physical encounters between Liz and Max than the show does. They express their feelings for one another faster and I like that because I am a sort of a mushy kind of person myself. I am just about to start the second book in the series and can't wait to see what is going to happen. Once you pick this book up you don't want to put it down. I hope I was helpful. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must- Read Series!, January 2, 2002
By
The Roswell High series by Melinda Metz is a must read! The Outsider, the first book of ten, is the start to all of the excitment and romance that is prominent in each of Metz's Roswell books.

The series revolves around six friends: Max, Liz, Maria, Michael, Alex, and Isabel. Max, Michael, and Isabel are aliens. Throughout the series the six friends form a family-like connection that goes through never-ending adventures and mishaps. New characters are intruduced here and there but in the core of Roswell High lies The Outsider, the Wilde One, the Seeker, the Vanished, the Scientist, and a Rebel.

There are romances along the way too. Max and Liz. Liz and Adam. Isabel and Alex. Isabel and Michael. Isabel and Trevor. Isabel and Nikolas. Michael and Maria. Michael and Cameron- Just to name a few! However, these romances are within all ten books so don't worry! Roswell high is not a soap opera. Ms. Metz doesn't overload the romance or the science fiction. There is just the right amount of each in all of her Roswell books. But to find out who's true love is whom in the end- you'll just have to read!

Each Roswell book is about 170 pages and each has about the same literary structure: In the begining of the current book the conflict from the last book is more-or-less solved. Then, a new plot and conflcit arises to which a plan is formed. The end of the current book partially solves the conflcit only to leave with a cliffhanger ending. And then so on.

For readers who hate bad endings or unhappy finishes- This is your series! Roswell High, although has it's dark moments as all books do, ends in complete delight! I really reccomend all ten of the Roswell High books! Melinda Metz is an amazing author!

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing and original!! I couldn't put it down., August 22, 1998

Melinda Metz has written a enthralling story for young adults. She has taken an event that to this day remains shrouded in mystery and given it a whole new history. From page 1, you will become obsessed with finding out what happens to Max, Liz, Michael, Isabel, Alex and Maria. If you have best friends, are interested in aliens, and enjoy "what if" kinds of questions, you will love this book. Adults will enjoy it as much as teens!

I am a "Roswell" TV show fan and this series has given me great insight into where the TV characters were based. I have really enjoyed this book and others in the series. Although the books ARE different from the show, the details and background information in the books are INCREDIBLE and difficult to create on-screen. I think that any true "Roswell" fan should read the books for more insight and details. I am also impressed with how the book's (and show's) details of the alleged 1947 crash coincide with real research and evidence. The author and TV show creators truly did their homework. I recommend this book to anyone interested in conspiracy theories, Area 51 myths, and/or Warners Brothers television series! Jenn :)
