Because I know some people wonder, Russell Peters is a comedian of Indian heritage (that's India, not American Indian) who is himself Canadian. A strange mix, true, but it makes for great comedy material in America.
Peters is one of the rarer sort of comedians; the sort who have toured the globe and actually picked up more knowledge than what a country's comedy clubs are like. His humor is mostly about the differences between races and cultures but - and this is a very important but - he is NOT insulting to any of them. Rather, he stands back and looks at the big picture and laughs at the little misunderstandings that make the situations so awkward or just plain wrong. This isn't the heavy-handed humor that's come to be so predominant in the comedy world: the obscenity-filled shock-fest or the goofy funny-faces-and-weird-noises brands of "humor." There are some curse words but he doesn't base his jokes around them or use them constantly without reason. Peters is intelligent and incisive without being condescending so you can learn something while you never lose that laughter.

Russell Peters isn't a terribly well known comedian at this point, which is a crying shame. He has a varied range of humor, from the typical off the cuff conversations with his audience to the lead through jokes that carry through the entire act. I picked up this CD as a gift for someone who had never heard of him and there was nothing but laughter the whole way through listening. If that isn't a good recommendation then I am not really sure what is.
Many of the jokes are racially based but they are not racist, and that makes it even better. He has some very accurate and funny observations to make, and even comedic advice. There is very little profanity and very little vulgarity which is a nice change from most comedians. The only people I can think of that wouldn't care for Russell Peters are those with an overabundance of body hair.

Russell Peters is hilarious! I had to see him live after listening to this AND I bought one of his older materials!! That's how much I loved this CD. If you're Asian American and you don't think this is funny, there's something wrong with you.

One of the best comedy discs I've heard for years,

This CD is very much centred on material that is available on DVD and I'd really have to recommend to you that if it comes down to a choice of this CD or a DVD by this guy then plumb for the DVD every time as the facial expressions and crowd interaction he elicits is a big draw. However if you want something to play while your in the car or banging away on your computer then this is the ticket.
Peters is of Indian heritage (that's as in the subcontinent not the Amazon delta or whatever) and he uses a stack of ethnic humour in his routine, making fun of but also championing the differences that make the world tick the way it does. His ability to mimic accents, note and crucify stereotypes and roll it all up into an act that can entertain a broad audience really makes this a great comedy disc. Sure he swears a bit - but we can't expect all comedians to be Billy Cosby - and in any event it's actually quite restrained compared to people like Chris Rock or any of half a dozen British comedy acts. Basically, if you want access to a disc that will provide belly laughs and can actually be listened to a number of times this is a darn good buy, comedy with a modern edge that takes the mickey out of a stack of human foibles.

I have gone to 2 concerts in DC watching Russell Peters perform. Russell Peters is a Canadian of Indian Heritage and has travelled around the world making observations of various cultures. He covers a wide of topics in this digital download from distinguishing between 'Asians', distinguishing Asians by how they speak, his experiences in foreign travel, and comedy related to Indian culture.
Off the cuff, he speaks to audience members determining what nationality they are and spontaneously rattles off jokes with brilliance. Obviously, listening to a comedy show does not compare to being there live and 'heckled' by him. However, this program is still definitely worth listening to. The audience to which he appeals to are from all over the world. His emphasis is more of a cultural appreciation and satire (which I prefer over more obscene or excessive use of explicit terms). Russell does use occasional explicit words every now and then for emphasis but it is not overused. I highly recommend this program.
