5.0 out of 5 stars Gold medal for a gay sports book
Authors Jim Buzinski and Cyd Ziegler should get a gold medal for telling their sports tale with the candor, punch and wit that is now their trademark. From the day they founded Outsports.com, the website was striking a deep chord with many people, not only in the U.S. but also other countries. Why? Because it wasn't just your standard political website focusing on "gay...

3.0 out of 5 stars Dissapointing
I felt like this book wasn't written for gay athletes, but more for heterosexuals who are interested in how gay athletes feel about sports. Most of the time I feel like this book is telling me how I feel about certain aspects of sports... I'll make my own opinions thank you very much. The coming out stories are very interesting though. Most of these you can read at...

Authors Jim Buzinski and Cyd Ziegler should get a gold medal for telling their sports tale with the candor, punch and wit that is now their trademark. From the day they founded Outsports.com, the website was striking a deep chord with many people, not only in the U.S. but also other countries. Why? Because it wasn't just your standard political website focusing on "gay rights in sports." Indeed, Outsports.com was an idea whose time had come -- it broke new ground by covering all sports and sports issues across the world from an in-depth GLBT perspective. And it invited reader and athlete participation in different areas, like blogs and bulletin boards. After I started writing for Outsports.com, I've occasionally worked on the team that covers big events on a daily basis for the website's rolling log -- from the Olympics to the FIFA World Cup. Today we have the book that breathes the spirit of what this unique sports publication is all about.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Breath of Fresh Air, August 16, 2007
This review is from: Outsports Revolution: Truth & Myth in the World of Gay Sports (Paperback)
WOW! Buzinski and Zeigler have hit the nail on the head. Who knew that gays were in so many sports and that sports were an important part of so many gays' lives? Well, the authors certainly knew it. The care and professionalism that they put into their groundbreaking website is reflected in this impressive work. While often thought-provoking and eye-opening, the writing is never ponderous or weighed down by dry statistics. Much to the contrary, it's a refreshingly fun and fascinating read.
"The Outsports Revolution" is an important work for sports fans and for gays, and most especially for gay sports fans everywhere -- we are not alone!

A long overdue compendium of the last missing GLBT history... - SPORTS. By no means comprehensive, it leaves you wanting for more information. From closeted scholastic athletes & coaches, to professional legends, to the rise of recreational GLBT sports, the authors have done their homework. While not PC enough for many in the community to admit, the GLBT sports revolution spawned by Gay Games in 1982 and fostered by the denizons of OutSports.com have had the most widespread and positive social impact on the community in 25 years. A must read for GLBT activists.

The Outsports Revolution touches on controversial issues, both past and present, regarding gay sports in the media, and Jim and Cyd offer great analysis on these topics. The writing is witty and the picture of the swimmer from Croatia makes the book worth every penny!
