Outstanding Lateral Thinking Puzzles,
By Tosh (UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Outstanding Lateral Thinking Puzzles (Paperback)
I have been keen on lateral puzzles for more decades than I care to admit to. This is a great sample of life situations where you need to twist your thinking a bit to arrive at the solution. It's no longer all about improbable circus acts and albatross pies!
I particularly liked The Shot That Saved. Speechless left me speechless. And I wonder how often The Plant is done??

I used this book with my learning disabled students in math class. It made them use their noggins, and they were actually competitive and enjoyed it.

This book is so much fun! I had originally bought it for my 11-year-old son to expose him to something new. He ended up being incredibly good at it right off the bat, and I totally stunk!! But now, I have caught onto the concept of thinking outside the box and we have so much fun working out the scenarios. Very entertaining and challenging.

Some good puzzles in here, but I wasn't a fan of many of them. As a substitute teacher, these would be great as an emergency lesson for pretty much any grade or subject.

There is no way for any mortal to logically work out these "puzzles". The book is a collection of cute stories that the author has broken into a teaser (the puzzle) and the story (the answer). Lateral, vertical, or upside down logic will not get you to the story.
The book is only worth one star if you like cute stories and are not interested in logical deduction. I spent about half an hour trying to make some sense of the book before I tossed it. |
