Editorial Reviews

VINYL VERSION. Predicted by Lester Bangs, The Gories existed for but a fleeting moment, yet left an indelible mark an all that followed. This is their 3rd & final LP, released in 1992. 14 cool, lo-fi slabs of primal garage.

Hailing from the darkest back rooms and dirtiest saloons south of Eight-Mile Road in Detroit,The Gories single handedly capture the basest values of rock music. Predicted by Lester Bangs, The Gories existed for but a fleeting moment, yet left an indelible mark an all that followed. This CD, their final assult on the recording establishment, contains some of their greatest recorded moments. "He's Doin' It" is about Dan's freaky cat, who 'danced' to whatever was on the stereo. "Omologato" is Mick's paeon to his favorite type of car and his rendering ('rendering'-think of a glue factory) of "There But For The Grace Of God I Go" is the best version of a disco song never played on the radio. All in all, this album is a stomper from start to finish. And don't call them 'Roots Rock' (or 'Damaged Blues' for that matter) because they transend any pigeon-holes a labeling could ever try to stuff them in.

if you know anything about the gories then you dont really need this review to tell you what a great cool band they are...if you know nothing about them, but love rock n roll, well, youre in luck because youve got the gories to listen to...

smooth driving beats and songs to make you sit back in your seat and grin or songs to sing at the top of your lungs probably to the confusion of people around you who might not know anything about where good music really comes from... where does good music come from you ask??? well, it doesnt come from nowhere, but i know it does seem to come from people who dont care about being famous and put music first...

there you go...

I prefer the dark under current of this record to the more upbeat R&B/Garage on earlier releases. There's a feel to this album that says "this is who we are" while the older stuff was more "here are a bunch of our favorite nearly forgotten songs we wanted to play for you".
