5.0 out of 5 stars Woody loves it
I first borrowed one of these from a friend and my eleven year old Yorkie loved it. I didn't want him running all over the front seat, getting nervous, and sometimes having an accident. This seat elevates him and hold him securely so he can be comfortable and sit in the seat. He can see out the front and side car windows so he is very happy. Now we will be able to go more...

3.0 out of 5 stars Sizing is way off
I bought this for my Norwich terrier, 12.5 pounds, and he barely fit with no room to wiggle or even turn to look out the window. I had to send it back. The concept is good, although there are a lot of straps that get in the dog's line of vision. I would recommend only using these with a harness rather than a collar, so if the dog did wiggle out a bit, they wouldn't...

This review is from: Kyjen Outward Hound Pet Car Booster Seat, Deluxe Faux-Leather, Small, Tan (Misc.)
Now we will be able to go more places together.

The seat is very well constructed and is easily attached to the front passenger seat with three straps. I think it will last a long time.

I would recommend this to anyone. By the way, they come in differnt sizes to accomodate dogs of different weights.

I really like this doggie car seat. My mini-schz. was a nightmare in the car before. If he couldn't see out the window, many times, he would become sick. But this car seat boosts him up to see out the window, plus makes him keep still. The only down side (for me) is it requires a seat with a head rest, so if we're going in my second car, my passenger has to either hold him or sit in the back.

Perfect for small dogs. My little Pug loves it. Fairly easy to install. Well worth the money spent when living on a budget.

The concept is good, although there are a lot of straps that get in the dog's line of vision. I would recommend only using these with a harness rather than a collar, so if the dog did wiggle out a bit, they wouldn't strangle. However, this is really only suited to a truly small dog, not a terrier.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great car seat!, June 26, 2008
This car seat is great for my 12 pound yorkipoo! He can sit or lay down in it. It keeps him from jumping all over the car and me while driving. I highly recommend this product for your small dog!

There's nothing worse than stopping short and having a dog fly through the car! Some states are now requiring dogs be secured in the car with some type of harness to a seatbelt.
This car seat is well made and easy to install in car. It offers a great view for the dog although it took some time to get the puppy adjusted to riding in it...he'd rather be sitting in my arms.
The clip to attach to the harness or leash to the car seat is a great way to offer more security but does not attach easily with a squirmy dog and a small hook on the harness. I've replaced it with something that is easier for me to manipulate.

Unfortunately my miniature Schnauzer just wouldn't stay in it, even when I used it's harness hook. Too bad because it's pretty cool. I really liked the 3 stash pouches too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worthwhile purchase!, October 7, 2009
I was lucky to find this car carrier at a discount store, so I figured, "Why not give it a try?" I have two dogs, an 8 lb. toy poodle and a 20-lb. bichonish dog. Both tend to be terrible in the car, and dealing with two of them jumping around has never been any fun.
This seat was very easy to install. I am terrible with spatial relations, so if I got it in easily (and back out and in again), anyone can do it. (I agree with the other reviewers who believe it requires a headrest, but I don't think my dogs would tolerate the back seat anyway, so it's okay that I only know how to put it in the front seat.)

To keep the seat positioned high and level, I installed it high and slanted up in the front. That makes it like a reclining airplane seat -- the dog naturally leans back a little and her weight levels her.

I first tested the seat with a few trips around the block with my bichon. As I wrote, he's 20 lbs., but he fit in the seat sitting up. And he was surprisingly content. (Not perfect, but he didn't flip out as he does with the harness seat belts.) He could put his paws out over the edge of it and seemed to feel much less confined than he does in the harness seat belts.

Next I tested the seat with both dogs in the car, which meant only one dog in the seat -- I put the toy poodle in it.

She is not particularly interested in looking out the window, but one way or another, she is much more content in this booster seat than she is in a doggie seat belt/harness. She also goes nuts in those and wriggles out. Even though the clip to her harness is short (another inch or two would be nice), she doesn't strain at it or try to get out. And having one dog secured in the car keeps the other one quieter. He sat more calmly next to her, almost tucked partly under the bottom of her seat. He did jump a bit from back to front, but he was more inclined than usual to stay put on the seat with her (and he doesn't like her, so it must have been more about the calm example she set or his desire to remain part of the clan up front).

Finally, as many people have said, it is a phenomenal change not to see the toy poodle fly forward when I hit the brakes. Driving was much less stressful without worrying about her flying into the dashboard.

I just wish they made this to hold two small dogs. I've seen pictures of those, but they are $80-$100.

5.0 out of 5 stars petey loves his seat, February 2, 2010

My toy yorkie absolutely loves his new seat. He can see out the window instead of just sitting in the car looking at the dash. He barks at the other dogs and cats as we drive down the road as if to say "Hey, look at me, I'm special".

5.0 out of 5 stars doggy booster seat, December 29, 2009

I purchased this seat for my Yorkie who has always been afraid of riding in a car. With this seat, he is absolutely loving every minute of the car ride, looking out the window and enjoying himself. Great product for my wonderful dog. It is easy to attach to the car seat and easy to remove.
