I purchased this item before my family went on a houseboat vacation for my lab who LOVES to swim as I knew he would want to swim with us in the lake but might get tired and I knew we'd need the handle to lift him back onboard. We used it in our pool a few times before we left so he would get used to it and it worked as well there as it did on the houseboat. It's very easy to put on and adjust and it is made very well. The handle is very sturdy and I had no problem picking up my 87lb lab. I looked at several jackes at different stores and websites and read many reviews before deciding on this one, and I'm very glad I got this one. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a dog life jacket.

I bought these for my dogs to wear when I am sunning myself in the middle of the lake so they don't get too tired. They work great and secure nicely. I ordered the XL and could have gotten by with the L I think but a little big is better than too small. (my dogs are 75 & 85 lbs)

They also work well when we're boating so other boaters see them easily in the water and if they're swimming for an extended period of time so they don't tire out. The handle on the top makes it easy to help them on to the swim platform on the back of the boat too.

We love to go canoeing and kayaking and want our dogs to take part in our adventures. We have pontoons for our canoe so it will not tip over. Still, we worried about the safety of our dogs if they should suddenly jump or fall into the water. We found peace of mind once we bought these Outward Hound life jackets. They are very well made and are secure once on the dogs. We love the handle on the top, as we are able to help our dogs lift themselves into the canoe and are also able to quickly grab onto them should we foresee any problems about to arise with other dogs or anything else.

We love these life jackets so much that each year we donate two to a favorite rescue league to be used at their annual silent auction fundraiser.

i did a lot of research on the different types and makes of dog life vests and am very glad i found this one. for the price and performance, it simply cannot be beat! we have a large 80lb female boxer with a very deep rib cage; she is hard to fit. as far as the measurement guides for selecting the best fit, we opted for the X-Large due to her weight. keep in mind that this is a bouyancy jacket, which is why we went a size up -- to accommodate her weight. we received the item and it is very very well made. i was concerned that it would not be secure enough around her, but there is a giant velcro piece that wraps underneath with very good overlap. and for additional security, 2 non-metal buckles. very well done. the sections that secure around the neck also have velcro, lots of padding, and a non-metal buckle. it might look uncomfortable, BUT once we had it secured properly our boxer did not mind it at all. at no time did our dog attempt to remove it. in fact, she stood still so we could it put in her. this vest is very secure on the dog.

once in the water, it did keep her very well afloat! she's never been swimming or near a body of water other than a kiddie pool, and given her weight and inexperience swimming, she'd probably be a sinker. with her life vest on, after only a couple days her experimenting along the shallow end of the pond, she would venture out by herself and swim out among us.

when she was swimming, a good portion of the jacket was always visible above water. her chin and neck were in the water, but most of her head and floppy ears were always above water. and she had no difficulty keeping her nose and mouth above water.

I bought this flotation device for my older dog who is having trouble walking. Swimming is a great exercise for him but he was having trouble getting out of the water. This gives him more confidence in the water and there is a handle on it, so i can provide assistance for him when he is coming out. We both LOVE it!

I purchased the X-large Kyjen Pet Saver Life Jacket for my 105 lb Akita who is almost 12 years old. He loves going into the water, but his arthritis has stopped him from swimming with us. This jacket allows him to join us in the lake where we go camping. His head and back stay above the water even if he's not paddling. It's a perfect fit because the neoprene material and velcro under the belly area allows a good range of fit around the mid-section. The buckle at the neck and the 2 around the belly allow for adjustment, too. They are the same buckles you find on a dog harness so they are sturdy and easy to open and close. As for the color, it's the same color as a life jacket for a human. That's what I want ... something that's highly visible in case you need it. I would definitely recommend this jacket to anyone with a large dog.

We received the life jacket one day and Hershey tried it out the very next. The XL fit our chubby chocolate lab perfectly. She felt so comfortable swimming in the jacket that she actually enjoyed the "fetch" game so much more. She can follow our boat and not tire as easily. She also is much safer now because she plays pretty rough in the water with our great dane/golden retriever mix. We are very satisfied in this purchase and will probably buy another one for him.

We have a 100 LB American Bulldog so we usually have a hard time finding his size in stores and dog boutiques who cater to little toy dogs. This life vest fits perfectly in a XL with some room to spare thanks to the Velcro closure so it would be a good fit for even larger dogs. He used it on a boating vacation and it held up terrifically.

We bought these life vests for our two boxers so they could come deep water padding with us. The vests will be used only if one of the dogs goes overboard, not as swimming support. We had the dogs practice swimming with them (makes sense to get them used to the preservers first,) and are confident if we capsize these preservers will support the boxer-dogs on longer swims. That doesn't happen very often.

If the dogs were doing a lot of swimming, stick fetching, and boxing these vests might not hold up too well. But they're perfect for what Olive and Barndog need.

USE THE SIZING CHART! MEASURE the neck, chest, and length. Don't guess. A little too big is better than a little too small. Our dogs are 67 and 85 pounds. I assumed the smaller dog would take size L, the bigger dog an XL. I'm so glad I measured them. Both dogs fit nicely into XLs. The sizing for our dogs has a lot to do with chest size.

So far, we're pleased!

I bought this for my 85 lb lab.

The underbelly section is a tad long for male dogs. It rubs just in front of their "boy part" and looks like it may be irritating after a bit. I think I'm going to cut this section out and give it more room.

Also, the bottom part should be mesh in my opinion, not solid fabric. He gets very hot with his chest and belly covered up in a double layer of thick neoprene.

Also, it's VERY stiff. It's hard for him to lie down but he gets used to it. I wash it on occasion to hopefully soften it up a bit as time goes.

I still gave it four stars because it does what it's supposed to by helping him float and is highly visible.
