I purchased this book as an addition to my Wilderness First Aid library. I found the book very easy to read. The breakdown by Section was logical and the contents appropriate. I especially liked the "Call Out Boxes" that gave an overview of the subject being covered. It is necessary however, to go through and highlight the essential information, if you intend to use the book as your primary reference. If I could only carry one reference book for group wilderness first aid, I would carry this one. The discussions concerning "Medicine and Medical Supplies" and "Wilderness Travel" leave many questions unanswered. If these areas could be expanded, it would help quite a bit.

The book is more about the human body and how it works, not really detailed about using natural surroundings as first aid.

This book admittedly does not teach you how to fashion a slingshot, a knife and a hammock from natural materials so that you could kill a cow, skin it and enjoy rare steak followed by a nap. Survival is a complex endeavor, with many confusing signals being given out by the human body. Sorting through what is important and what matters from what can wait till you reach civilization is explained better in this book than any other. The ability to read the signs of how critical systems are functioning as described in this book translates to any setting. Highly recommended.
