retro Italia meets Porcupine Tree!,
By
This review is from: Oval Dreams (Audio CD)
I ordered this little gem with a batch of other Musea offerings and found this one growing on me from the first listen. The first thing I noticed was the old-style lyrics, very simple and subdued/in the back of the mix so to speak. I can forgive the slightly amateurish production and musicianship in spots because it shows much promise. The keys are nice and the songs are different enough from each other not to become tedious. They cover a Darkness from VDGG and Mother Nature's Son/ Beatles and move effortlessly from folky-tinged dittys to more progressive cuts. I'd have to say that I agree with the initial review, that they are similar to Porcupine Tree in their retro-style, but the vocals still stand out as the highlight to me-very innocent and unpretentious. A refreshing twist in the melange of neo-syth combos churning out "progressive epics" with hollow lyrics and poor vocal skills. Give it a listn and play it often, I think it'll grow on you too. Bella!
