Michael Gold
It's a bit bigger than a regular hotplate, but much more stable and can fit big pots on it.

Ordered this to bridge the gap as we remodel our kitchen and live without our oven and hob for several weeks. This works great and is compatible with all types of cookware.

In the past year I have tried 3 different cooktops. I tried an induction cooktop but I just don't care for induction cooking.

I took a chance with Ovente's cooktop (with my fingers crossed).

Well, it works so well and it is just what I was searching for.

Easy to operate. Worth every penny I spent.

I had not heard about Ovente before this purchase. Now I KNOW about them. Thank you.

Got it to replace the induction one I like so well just to try something new [to me]. Nothing to recommend it as far as performance. Not as fast as induction. Design much better than the induction heater in several areas - good clearance below unit meaning boil overs will not get inside the vented bottom and short out the electronics as happened with the induction unit, entire top is the same heat resistant material meaning a hot pan that gets set on top of the touch control pad will not melt the control pad cover as happened with the induction unit. Touch control temperature level setting is sensitive mandating use of the lock button which is not very touch sensitive. Best to use the physical on-off switch on side to ensure it does not accidentally get turned on as there is no auto alarm or off control - the one safety feature the induction unit had that was very useful.

Overall prefer the induction unit even with its short comings.

He loves it. I previously got him an electric skillet and a small rice cooker. (We aren't allowed by building code to install a stove in his suite.) He didn't like the electric skillet because it was too large. I couldn't find a decent-quality smaller one. This unit is a bit pricey but I'm glad I got it.

I bought this cooktop and a high-end single-burner induction cooktop at the same time. I use these two cooktops as my only stove, and I bought this so I would not be limited to ferrous cookware.

There is only one thing I don't like about this cooktop, but it's a very annoying thing: the temperature control goes in only one direction (up). If I have the cooktop set to 4 and I want to turn it down to 3, I have to do one of two things:

(1) Repeatedly press the temperature control until it reaches the top value (12) then starts again at 1 (that's a lot of button presses when I'm trying to cook), or

(2) Turn off the cooktop then turn it on again so the temperature setting is positioned at 1, then click from there to where I want it to be.

Besides all the clicks, what's especially annoying about this is, I have to make a mental note of the start number before I make any change, or I can't remember what it needs to be to "turn it down". I don't want to have to put so much mental energy (and button clicks) into controlling the temperature of a cooktop. It should take half a second to turn it down slightly, not focused attention and 6 button clicks. Turning down the temperature should be quick and intuitive so I can focus on my cooking.

However, there are not a lot of options anymore for infrared cooktops. Most of the ones sold on Amazon are no longer made, and I didn't want to buy something that is no longer made. This is a very functional cooktop - it just has this one design flaw. But it's an annoying enough flaw that I find myself not wanting to use it unless I really have to (I need two burners, or I need a pan that is not ferrous and won't work on the induction cooktop).

We have been using this cooktop in our small apartment. We didn't have a stove, so this was very handy for small cooking jobs. It works great and is well made. It is a good product.

This was fine with a small pot of water in it to steam fiber. Then today I put a heavier taller pot on with three inches of water in the bottom of it. On high I waited almost 45 minutes for the water to come to an itty bitty boil. it never rolled that boil so I could not use the larger pot on this which means it was a waste of time and money.

Not efficient for studio use.
