Very good sound quality.

The PSBs have better tonal balance and sound very much like closed back Sennheiser HD600s IF the Senns were sealed.

Outstanding clarity, very good highs and mids.

I needed a closed pair of headphones to use during late-night listening sessions, when my wife and daughter are asleep, and where my (VERY) open-backed Grado PS500's leaked too much sound. The Grado's are amazing, and had they made a closed headphone, they could simply sign me up. So I began a journey to find the ideal audiophile closed headphone, which would also isolate noise effectively in a passive way, and ideally be portable. I tried the Beyerdynamic DT1350, great treble, punchy bass, and good mids. It just wasn't as "FUN" as I was looking for. Additionally, it got uncomfortable being supra-aural on sitting on the ear. I also tried the VModa M100, as I had read it was more accurate than their previous offerings. Ok, it is incredibly built, military grade even. But it was just still too colored for me, adding bass in places that didn't need it, and overpowering the mids. The treble was fairly good, but a little rolled off at the limits. Next I tried the Sennheiser Amperior. This is a good headphone, and many will like it. I thought the highs were a bit zazzy and hot, especially with "S" and "T" sounds. Of course, the source was critical, and the better the quality of the file, the better the output. I just couldn't put my finger on why I didn't want to keep them, but the clamping force was the deciding factor. Throughout this search of trial and error, I came across several glowing reviews for the PSB M4U 2's, which featured active noise cancelling. I had never been a huge fan of the way added electronics altered the sound quality and transparency of these types of headphones, but many respected audio publications said they were different. Then I read that PSB had recently released a new model without the active noise cancelling.Read more ›

Using this only for computer audio listening. Plugged into Audioquest Dragonfly, the sound is very detailed and balanced, with no overemphasis anywhere in the audioband. Very good sound quality. Even lowly MP3s (256 and 384 kbps) sound great. With lossless rips from CD, I have not heard other phones for the price that are better with the Dragonfly. Earcups and the 'phones overall are supremely comfortable and provide good isolation on planes/in airports.

Honestly, the Dragonfly/M4U 1 combo is so good, I find it hard to pick a winner between this and my "real" headphone setup (AKG K701 with Violectric HPA V100 headphone amp) when playing the same source material. Although the AKGs are even more comfortable to me and just may sound a bit "airier" (they're open-back, after all). But with the recent pricedrop on the Dragonfly (sells for $200 now), the Dragonfly/M4U 1 combo costs about a quarter of what the AKG/Violectric set me back (once the Cambridge DacMagic and interconnects needed for the latter combo are factored in).

Also, these are sensitive enough to be driven directly (w/o portable headphone amp) sufficiently loudly by my HTC Amaze and Nexus 7 (2013), though volume levels on both devices are basically almost (HTC) or fully (Nexus) turned up.

I spent weeks looking for a pair of closed-back headphones that would work well in a noisy office environment. I finally decided on these and couldn't be happier.

I tried the Sennheiser Momentum, AKG 550, AKG 551 and Audio Technica ATH-M50s. In short:

Sennheiser: Beautiful craftsmanship but only if you have newborn baby-sized ears. I have completely normal sized ears and these were excruciatingly uncomfortable. It's amazing to me that so much thought can be put into a product but completely miss on something as seemingly obvious as this.

AKG: I really wanted to love these but in the end found them too harsh and not a great value. For $250 you get the cans in a cardboard box. That's pretty much it. The 551s rip out the nice cord on the 550s and replace it with the world's crappiest looking microphone. Very comfortable, just didn't like the sound much at all.

Audio Technica: Great all around and cheaper, but in the end the PSBs just sounded better.

I love the sound. I love the case, all the accessories, the mic is handy on occasion. I can wear them for hours and they're comfortable (once you get used to the clamping force). My lone complain is the glossy finish (though a microfiber cloth is included!). I don't know why companies continue to make glossy black plastic that shows every single fingerprint. But, when they're on my head, doin' their thing, I can't see them anyway, so who cares?

I bought this after reading all the convincing reviews and articles out there (wire cutter, CNET, Forbes, etc.) claiming this is the best set of headphones for the price. Went with the M4U 1s since I don't really need the noise canceling. I am extremely happy with these cans, they sound amazing. I bought the Fiio monte blac portable amp to give these a bit of extra juicy warmness and bass kick and it really ices the cake nicely.
