DOING IT "THE HARDWAY"!!!, September 26, 2005

I've always been a fan of James Hardway since my acquisitions of the always impressive "Positve Sweat," "Moors and Christians," "Straight from the Fridge", "Easy is a Four Letter Word", "Deeper, Wider, Smoother $#!^" and "Big Casino"--so when I saw "Over Easy" in my local record store, I jumped right on it, never thinking twice about how it would sound!!! Talk about some serious grooves--this latest release is a fusion of jazz, neo-soul, funk, rap and hip-hop. The music is played live by Hardway and a host of other equally impressive musicians, starting out smooth with sultry vocals, and then elevating into a high bpm rap-fest that will leave you breathless. And let's say you don't want to hear a bunch of singing and rapping--well, guess what??? Disc 2 offers shorter instrumental versions of Disc 1. A real treat! James Hardway can now say he's done it all, showing that he can not only master drum and bass and Cuban rhythms, but more contemporary, easily accessible stuff like jazz and hip-hop as well. Highly Recommended!!!!
