5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely taste of horror, April 22, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Over the Edge (Hardcover)
The first time I read a story by Lovecraft I was alone in the house on the classic dark and stormy night. After that resulting bout of sleeplessness, I always made sure to read his work in full light of day, with plenty of people in ear-shot. Yes, the language can at times be torturous, and yes, the descriptions of Cthulu and "the goat of a thousand young" are wordy and at times over-wrought, but the Arkham House crowd will make your guts turn cold with fear of the Elder Gods. This volume of previously unpublished stories by various masters of Lovecraftian literature will delight all fans of the eldritch horror of Arkham House. From off-world tales such as Frank Belknap Long's "When the Rains Came" to Lovecraft's traditional after-death horror in "Shadow in the Attic," this hard-to-find collection is a treat.
