Book Description

August 1, 2012 The Kincaid Brides (Book 3)
Bestselling Author Mary Connealy Delivers Her Trademark Historical Romantic Comedy

Seth Kincaid survived a fire in a cave, but he's never been the same. He was always a reckless youth, but now he's gone over the edge. He ran off to the Civil War and came back crazier than ever.

After the war, nearly dead from his injuries, it appears Seth got married. Oh, he's got a lot of excuses, but his wife isn't happy to find out Seth doesn't remember her. Callie has searched, prayed, and worried. Now she's come to the Kincaid family's ranch in Colorado to find her lost husband.

Callie isn't a long-suffering woman. Once she knows her husband is alive, she wants to kill him. She's not even close to forgiving him for abandoning her.

Then more trouble shows up in the form of a secret Seth's pa kept for years. The Kincaid brothers might lose their ranch if they can't sort things out. It's enough to drive a man insane--but somehow it's all making Seth see things more clearly. And now that he knows what he wants, no one better stand in his way.

Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

Seth Kincaid remembers almost everything...

except getting married!

Seth Kincaid survived a fire in a cave, but he hasn't been the same since. Then he fought in the Civil War and returned to Colorado crazier than ever.

Somewhere along the line, it appears Seth got married. Oh, he has a lot of excuses, but his wife isn't too happy to find out Seth doesn't remember her. Callie isn't a long-suffering woman. When Seth disappeared, she searched, prayed, and worried. Now she's come out west to wrangle her long-lost husband.

Seth is willing to make amends. Callie is more interested in shooting him. Can they rekindle their love before one of them goes over the edge?

"With trademark humor, Conneally (In Too Deep; Out of Control) weaves a delightful tale that is sure to please her fans and win her new readers. Recommend it to those who enjoy the fiction of Mona Gansberg Hodgson." --Library Journal

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved Every Moment Of This Book!!!! August 9, 2012
By Melanie
Format:Paperback
What to say about this book... well, for starters, I LOVED it!! Seriously, from the beginning pages until the end, I loved every moment!

It was great to get to read Seth's story and find out what made him the way he is. I found his wife, Callie, to be a new favorite character of mine - right along with other favorites from this series: Ethan, Seth, plus many more. :)

I loved the little surprises that were in Over the Edge (not going to say what they were, but if you read this book, I think you'll know what I'm talking about) and found myself grinning SO MUCH throughout the book. If you would have seen me when reading this book, you'd probably have laughed. :)

I think this is the last book in the Kincaid Brides series, which I find sad because I love these characters and do not want this to be the end... I'm hoping Mary Connealy will write more with them. :)

I most definitely recommend Over the Edge for older teens/adults, especially if you like historical romances. :)

*I received a complimentary copy of this book for my review. I was not required to give a positive review, only my honest opinion - which I've done. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.*

5.0 out of 5 stars Nobody does crazy like Mary Connealy September 7, 2012
Format:Paperback
After meeting Seth Kincaid in the previous two "Kincaid Brides" books I wondered if I could buy into him as a hero. Usually I cheer for the steady, responsible, gainfully-employed types. I can't think of any off-his-rocker hero that has won my heart in the past. Especially one who abandoned his wife and child. Redeeming such a character would take uncommon skill.

Mary Connealy... you got skills.

From the first page in Seth's POV I was sold. Seth hears threats blazing from an over-turned stagecoach. His thoughts:

"A woman.
A woman who knew his name.
A woman who knew his name and wanted to kill him.
He'd never had much luck with women."

No question, the strength of this story is being able to sympathize with Seth. I felt like I understood him, even when he didn't understand himself. I also understood why Callie married him, nightmares and all.

This book is funny, exciting and romantic. If you like tough heroines and reckless but kind-hearted heroes, you need to find yourself a copy of Over the Edge.

4.0 out of 5 stars Live To Read August 21, 2012
Format:Paperback
If readers are looking for a female character with spunk they need not look any further. Callie is one tough cookie. She survives the Civil War and her husband's odd disappearance and will not be broken by her husband's, Seth's, inability to remember her. Does Seth have an excuse for this abandonment? Well, he has excuses in the form of injuries. Seth has some internal/mental problems that must be dealt with before Callie can take on her threat of shooting him for leaving her. Can the two come to some resolution?

Callie's character was fun and easy to love. She shows bravery in a time where women were not known for being outspoken. Seth's character was slightly more complicated. He was a little harder to get to know, but the reader will likely come to appreciate him. The other characters fit perfectly into the novel's plot and often bring about surprises that will keep the reader avidly turning the pages.

The plot itself was easy to follow and character-driven. The events are fast-paced for the most part and the author has a keen eye for detail, allowing the reader to picture the setting. Overall, this book is recommended to adult readers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great finish to the series December 17, 2012
Format:Paperback
Seth Kincaid found his way home to his brothers, but somewhere along the way forgot he was married. His wife, Callie, didn't forget though and doesn't take the news too kindly.

Callie manages to track Seth down and has a few surprises for him. Seth's memories since the Civil War are sketchy and Callie isn't sure what to believe - or how patient to be with him.

Seth is trying his best to remember and win Callie back, but will he remember enough to keep her with him? Or will Callie decide enough is enough and let Seth go?

My Thoughts

Over the Edge is the third book in the Kincaid Bride series by Mary Connealy. Seth has been the `crazy' brother since the series began, haunted by nightmares since his return from the Civil War. His brothers and wives are mostly patient with his many quirks, but no one knew he got married sometime after the war.

Many of Seth's quirks are better explained in this book dedicated to his story and he is shown as so much more than the crazy younger brother that he appeared to be in the other books. Connealy develops Seth's character deeply in Over the Edge, revealing parts of Set that only his relationship with Callie help explain.

Over the Edge wraps up the Kincaid Bride series nicely and with the introduction of a younger character, it opens the door for a follow-up where readers can see the Kincaid family in the future. {That may be a total guess on my part - but a definite possibility}.

5.0 out of 5 stars Over the edge October 17, 2012
Format:Paperback
Mary Connealy's book, Over the Edge was the third book of the Kincaid Brides series. Although this is the third book of the series, it can stand alone. I read the book before the first two in the series and easily followed the story. It picks up where the other books left off, but you won't be lost if you only read this one. You won't want to do that. I immediately read books one and two because book three was so good. If you choose to just read Over the Edge, you will quickly be brought up to speed with the authors thorough recap. One improvement would have been to include dialect of the time, but the lack of it doesn't really take away from the story. It was set shortly after the civil war in Colorado City. Readers that enjoy Cathy Hake or Karen Whitmeyer should really love this book. It was full of fighting, adventure, treasure, surprise, suspense, and a wonderful ending. I have read several accidental, arranged, and convenience marriage books, but I have never read a forgotten marriage story like this one. It was a nice change of pace. My friend grabbed this book up as soon as I finished it.
