Book Description

August 21, 2006
A wide spectrum of motorcycling is covered in these stories - touring, desert racing, motocross, antiques, marriage and motorcycling. Most are fiction, but a few are real experiences. Although most of these stories, opinions and essays were published in motorcycle magazines years back, they have a timeless quality that makes them as interesting and valid today as then.

More About the Author

Well, it is now January of 2011 and I am 77 years young. I still ride my motorcycle most every week. I still waterski, wakeboard and air chair. And occasionally I will do a bit of snow skiing. My latest writings are on hubpages, where I have 57 "hubs", many dealing with motorcycling. To check them out, go to hubpages//dongately.

I have completed six screenplays and two novels, and six country songs (lyrics only). But I'm still looking for a publisher for the novels or a production company for the screenplays.

My book OVER THE HANDLEBARS is a collection of previously published motorcycle stories or articles. I also have two novels, THE NEXT BEST THING TO SEX, and A WAY WITH WOMEN. All 3 books are now available over Amazon's amazing Kindle service. The novel I think has the best chance to be sold is represented by a subsidiary of Amazon, Create Space. It takes place in the sexy sixties and is the story of a handsome rogue who uses women to rise from short order cook in Mississippi to the head of a Los Angeles advertising agency by using women. The title is A WAY WITH WOMEN.

The screenplays I think should have the best chance of succes are HIKERS, and EXTREME FUN. HIKERS is about two women who get lost in the mountains. One falls off a cliff and must be rescued by helicopter. The second falls into the clutches of marijuana growers. EXTREME FUN is a comedy about motocrossers struggling with corrupt politicians.

I think my song lyrics that would stand the best chance of publication are ANOTHER NEW FRIEND, about a woman with Alzheimer's Disease, and CREDIT CARD BLUES.

Since I am retired, I have time to answer emails from my zillions of fans. My email address is donaldmgately@yaoo.com.

They say that a man writes his own history, so... I'm going to call this book an autobiography. As with all autobiography's they all start at the beginning of the journey into the two wheeled love affair. Don began that journey in 1948. He tells about his delivering newspapers so he could buy a Cushman scooter. He goes on to tells us about his going from one bike to another, trying to find the right one. He tells about going from one race to another trying to at least finish. He goes on to tell us about the many road trips he took: the people he meet;the places he went. The only Harley in the book ends up in Montana not wanting to go home. This book spans some fifty years of time, lending some nostalgia for the older riders. Don finishes this book with a day by day diary of a forty day,10K road trip at the age of sixty six. If you do the math, Don will celebrate his seventy sixth B-Day this year. Not a bad read if your into old school dirt and desert racing.
