From the Manufacturer

Based on the feature film from DreamWorks Animation, Over the Hedge takes players on an interactive adventure beyond the film. Assuming the roles of RJ the raccoon, Verne the turtle, Hammy the squirrel, and Stella the skunk, players turn a suburban neighborhood loaded with dangerous obstacles and traps into their own personal playground. Numerous puzzles and mini-games keep fans busy as they switch between two of the four main characters or engage in two player co-op with friends.

Features:

  • In over 30 mission-filled levels, gamers can switch between two characters on the fly, or select multiplayer mode to join forces with a friend. Gamers interact with all characters from the film, as well as all-new characters that live only in the game. The fast-paced adventure takes place in more than 10 new locations not featured in the film including the exterminator's lab, the sewers, and the wild Western theme park.
  • In an attempt to free captured friends and rob the humans of their beloved food, players master each character's special moves and learn how to use them to work together. Special moves include: RJ's "golf ball barrage," Verne's "spinning shell attack," Hammy's "Hammy time" which allows him to streak around and overcome opponents in the blink of an eye, and Stella's "stink." Players move on to gain new abilities that allow each animal to perform advanced combo attacks as well as pick up hidden tools and armor.
  • When playing with a friend gamers go on multiplayer co-op quests to fill their wagon with food. They barge through closed windows, fenced-in yards, and laser-guarded homes, performing the ultimate heist in order to locate and free captured friends.
  • Gamers can unlock fast-paced mini-games like "Golf Cart Derby," "RC (radio-controlled) Car Racing," and "Suburban Mini Golf" as players take on side challenges to win energy-filled snacks or powered-up weapons and items.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this game!, June 7, 2006
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Over the Hedge (Video Game)
This game is awesome. First off, it is based on the movie Over the hedge by Dreamworks animation. Play as RJ, Verne, Hammy, or Stella and battle rats, gophers, robot bunnies, and moles in 7 destructible environments. You can also play mini-games. There are:
RC Rally: Drive an RC car racing on a race track
Range Driver: Swing your golf clubs at all of the enemies.
and
Bumper Carts: Drive a golf cart around a course and smash into the other players. FUN!
In the missions you try and get food for RJ's wagon for Vincent. Also you rescue Heather the possum from "The Verminator". One thing I don't like is that you can't control the camera. I also don't know why this game is rated E10+ just for "violence". The weapons are fun. RJ and Verne have golf clubs. Stella has a plunger (weird), and Hammy has a boomerang. Pick up power-ups during missions to refill your health and energy bar. When your energy bar has bars filled, do your cool energy attack. Overall, this game is cool. Also, rent this game before buying it.

4.0 out of 5 stars My son loves it, February 23, 2007

= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Over the Hedge (Video Game)
My son (just turned 6) rented this game from Blockbuster with a gift card. He has played it every day for a week. He really loves the characters and the action. I only gave it 4 stars because there are parts where you don't know what to do and if you can't make it through to the certain point then you start all over which requires listening to the characters talk (like part of the movie). This gets a bit tedious. It might have helped had the game included the booklet.
Anyway, I would say, overall, that it is really fun for kids.

4.0 out of 5 stars NOT BAD FOR A LICENSED GAME 8.25 OUT OF 10, September 22, 2007
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Over the Hedge (Video Game)
At first I feared the worst about this game because I thought it was going to suck like most licensed games. Who the hell would figure I that I would actually have fun with this game considering my horrible reviews for games such as The Bible Game and Casper: Spirit Dimensions? It is really fun to play with a friend because of all the different missions you get to play through. There is also an overabundance of weaponry like golf clubs, snowball guns, and more. The missions, enemies, protagonists, and mini-games are a bit over the top but it's a lot of fun. There are also a ton of things you can destroy on the game which makes it already more fun. The mini-games you unlock on the way include a golf cart demolition derby, a remote controlled car race, and target practice. The issues that prevent this game from reaching truly great status are it's squirrelly camera, some timed button press sequences, some stupid enemies, and it is much better to play with a friend than by yourself. These issues are minor in comparison to the fact that it's a lot of fun to play for both kids and adults. I really enjoyed my experience with this surprisingly good game which somehow managed to get me to like and not pan it scores wise. Overall, I have no trouble recommending this game in comparison to kids games that I've panned, because of how nicely assembled it is. So if you're looking for a game for your kids this one should have no trouble keeping them entertained, take it from me, a guy who enjoys M-rated games, and if I'm somebody who usually hates kids games but somehow managed to enjoy this game, you have to figure that there is something good about this quirky game. Also worth mentioning is how good the voice acting is in this game... and it's done by imitators who sound just like the actors from the movie (it's kinda freaky how good they are).
