Amasong's First CD,

This review is from: Over Here the Water is Sweet (Audio CD)
I'm nothing like a professional music reviewer.
I first discovered Amasong while living in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. I volunteered at WEFT as a substitute airshifter. Primarily I filled in for the Monday world music show. Amasong caught my eye because they were choral AND world music. This meant I could play their second CD, Amai, as a new music selection and I knew what to expect. This CD is very good but the songs are a bit hard to hear, mostly due to the CD being recorded live in a church. My favorite tracks are: 14 Dig My Grave Both Long and Narrow 15 Todor Todorka 17 Burial Society Song

I had seen a documentary about these wonderful women on PBS. The selection of songs are from around the world and across generations from the Medieval Caritas Abundat to the Japanese children's song Hotaru Koi. If you like choral music,I highly recommend this CD.
