2007's Over the Horizon is the second album from German melodic rock band Human Zoo. I hear a lot of Gotthard in Human Zoo's sound (I'm guessing the band even took their name from Gotthard's Human Zoo album) as well as the early Andi Deris Pink Cream 69 albums. It helps that PC69's Dennis Ward is handling production duties.

Over the Horizon is a strong, vibrant melodic rock album that draws heavily from the 80's melodic rock style. Big hooks, catchy melodies and anthemic choruses are in plentiful supply, as are impressive musicianship and a knockout vocal performance. Thomas Seeburger's voice is right between Andi Deris and Steve Lee of Gotthard, which helps make these songs seem like familiar favorites even when you're hearing them for the first time. Standout tracks are the hard rocking title track and "Rock Your Town" as well as the lighter "Creatures of the Night." "Hit the Rock" is another great rocker.

My only real issue with Over the Horizon is that the style swings a little too far at times, going from the harder rocking songs at the beginning of the album to saxophone-laden AOR songs near the end. It was almost like two different bands. Still, most of the songs are uniformly high quality and are quite memorable.

If you're a fan of bands like Gotthard, Pink Cream 69, Bonfire and Fair Warning, you'll definitely want to check out Human Zoo. They're not quite at those bands' level, but it won't be long before Human Zoo is considered a tier 1 melodic rock band.

If you like melodic rock, dont think and just buy it...everything Dennis Ward touches turns to gold and this is no exception, his production is incredible and the band themselves are flawless...do yourself a favor, in the name of the music, get it
