"One of the primary reasons in writing books is to research and collect information to share with others. The over mint marks needed such a book to document information useful to the collector. For example, there are approximately 15 known 1955D/S Jefferson nickel 0MMs. Many of these look extremely similar, difficult even for the advanced collector to distinguish. Even though the map marks were struck into each die by hand, many of them it marks are in the same relative location: therefore, relative location to the Monticello it's not always helpful in identification. Using dye markers such as die scratches, die cracks, doubling, and other types of dye markers that are in usually unique to each die is the most efficient method for identifying which variety you have. One of the goals for this book was too listed display photographs of those dye markers so that they could be used for identification...."
