4.0 out of 5 stars maybe better than Judy's
I will never deny that Dorothy AKA Judy Garland owned that song, but Eva Cassidy is the only other person I've ever heard even come close to doing it any justice. It is perhaps better in the lovely lullaby-like music. The singing is obviously heartfelt, and I am certain that Ms. Cassidy is now over the rainbow. 3.0 out of 5 stars ... the real deal?
Eva Cassidy's authentic voicing of American popular music was introduced and circulated in a fashion of democratic folk traditions now made newly powerful by our digital lifestyle. Reportedly there is a reservoir of Eva's artistry preserved in private recordings (bootleg, not pirated copies) of live, unpublished performances, perhaps simply because the beauty of her...

It is perhaps better in the lovely lullaby-like music. The singing is obviously heartfelt, and I am certain that Ms. Cassidy is now over the rainbow. We all lost out on the chance to appreciate her wonderful talent when she passed away so young. Some have not particularly liked this version - it is simply a matter of taste.

5.0 out of 5 stars Over the Rainbow by Eva Cassidy, February 27, 2006
This review is from: Over The Rainbow (Audio CD)
Great artist and the CD featured songs that really showcased her talent. The CD is fantastic and the sheet music is fun to play. Both arrived in a timely manner and in excellent condition.

Eva Cassidy's authentic voicing of American popular music was introduced and circulated in a fashion of democratic folk traditions now made newly powerful by our digital lifestyle. Reportedly there is a reservoir of Eva's artistry preserved in private recordings (bootleg, not pirated copies) of live, unpublished performances, perhaps simply because the beauty of her compelling artistry was so readily recognized without the smothering effects of manufactured trappings of copyright, packaging, and marketing materials required of the commercial music trade. This is an example similar to independent distribution of artist libraries following recent models by the Jimi Hendrix family, Janis Ian and the swelling number of independent artists who provide their recorded libraries through subscription or other digital lifestyle innovations.

This "Over The Rainbow" version is a studio production. The real "OTR' is a stunning, breathtakingly awesome version recorded live and now backing the "People Get Ready" single. For wide contrast, pair the latter with her "You Are" rendition on the "No Boundaries" disc.

Eva's artistry seems to inspire us to "... commit random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty." Now, if we could also be blessed with similarly recovering Valentine Pringle's unmatched artistry, especially a cappella (Mr. Belafonte?)
