There's something about the way Israel Kamakawiwo'ole performs this song that tugs at every heart string I have. Maybe it's because I was born in Hawaii. Maybe it's because Over the Rainbow has been a favorite of mine since childhood. Maybe it's because those things combine with the perfect timing and passion of this great talent and transport me to a time when my loved ones were all healthy and walking this world - before their journeys took them "over". Doesn't matter. Everyone should have a song like this that tears them apart.

I heard about this man when I visited Hawaii. Apparently he was the most popular musician there before he died. I decided to pickup the CD to be able to see what all the hype was about. Well, I am truly blown away. An absolute incredible voice with a great repertoire of songs. Although Somewhere Over The Rainbow is my favorite song of his, all of his albums are great! I truly recommend this peaceful music.

If I ever find myself in a depressed state, all it takes is for me to hear this song and shed a tear or two. Beautiful, absolutely beautiful melody with lyrics that remind us that we all have an "over the rainbow" waiting for us if we just take the time to look for it.

I downloaded this by accident, I was really looking for the medley version with "What a wonderful world" worked in. This is a good recording...or at least good as MP3's go. Just not the one I was looking for.

This is a song that I liked. My wife could never get enough of also, playing over and over again. Such a serene feeling. Just listen to the sample and you know if it's your style.

One of the most fun renditions of an old standard I have ever heard. Very creative reworking that I can listen to many times.

I've downloaded this file 4 times, and each time it will not play on my Windows player. I spoke with Amazon after the first three attempts, and I was refunded the charge. After 4 days I tried again, and it still won't play. The error message says the file is not an mp3, even though it has an mp3 extension. Until they fix this, buy at your own risk. FTR I've purchased 3 other songs at the same time, and they all play fine. I really love this song, and I'm not happy that I can't buy it.

Update: Fifth time's a charm. I just downloaded the song and it plays.

There is a certain magic to this particular rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". When I first heard it, I knew nothing about the performer, only that I really wanted this for a keeper! It is sweetness personified and will make your day unless you are a hopeless old curmudgeon. This talent was taken from us all too soon!

He had an amazing gift. One of the most beautiful renditions of 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' in existence. Very sorry that he passed away.

After our child was born, this song was one of the few things that would help him get to sleep. I owe IZ big time! Awesome song for sure!!
