Modern equipment such as sophisticated navigational tools and a connection to the Internet ease Arctic travel somewhat, but as Steger's account makes clear, crossing the Arctic Ocean is still a thrilling, grueling, and perilous journey. The book first describes the purpose of the trip and introduces the hardy, courageous members of the team, both human and canine, before embarking on the diary-like narrative of the trek. Written with a crispness and an immediacy, the narrative reads like an adventure story, with dramatic, compelling photographs (like that of a team member with his beard frozen into tiny icicles) adding greatly to the interest. Great photography and stimulating story of a thrilling nature adventure. This is my second Will Steger book and I will read more.

My son loved the book, I ws disappointed because the last name of the seller was on the cover - it did clearly state this in the description, but I missed it. So instead of giving as a Christmas gift, I gave it to him early. He didn't mind at all - the pictures are wonderful

I guess I have to read thing better the next time - my mistake!
