The bad is that if you put your iPad in this case, it will be dry but inoperable if in water.

Works great and has the clear circle for the camera lens built in so you can still take pictures with it...even underwater if you are a brave soul.

This case is great because you can sit in the pool or spa and control the music or just play without worrying about getting the ipad wet.

This case is fabulous. We have a pool with outdoor entertainment and speakers that are controlled by our ipad. We have been looking for something like this for a long time. This case is great because you can sit in the pool or spa and control the music or just play without worrying about getting the ipad wet. It floats and ours has been fully submerged without any difficulty. The top has these special closures that don't allow the water to penetrate. It actually works really well. We have an 8 year old who also plays with it in the pool and it is still holding up well. I was a little hesitant the first time we used this case, but now after many uses I am now confident with its seal. It is a great product and I would definitely recommend it. I also bought the water proof case for the iphone. I hope it works as well.

If you are using by the water Xclusively and not in the Sun..GREAT! Fogs up in the Sun (Humidity, inside) Yikes.
Creates it's own condensation inside even if you use the little crytals bag that came with it. Not shock(drop)proof, be careful. Otherwise, you are getting exactly what you want!

I have dipped this bad boy, with iPad inside, into the water several times, completely submerged. No problem but I try not to make it a habit. It also catches enough air in their to allow it to float. Again, I'd advise testing this in a pool but not the lake. However, it will float, assuming you haven't vacuumed too much of the air out. I'm buying one of these for a Christmas present but will actually be looking elsewhere for a lower priced product.

Also, the sound carries through fairly well. Next step is a wireless bluetooth receiver so I can watch Netflix in the hottub without turning off the jets haha thank God for America.

My only "Con" is that the transparent material feels like it could be torn without too much force. But I've had this for 3 months so far and no problems. Just continue to treat your iPad like a baby and you'll be fine.

Lol you can put your iPhone or whatever other phone in it. I just now realized that.

I purchased this since I was going to be sailing for 3 weeks in British Columbia and wanted to use iNavX as a navigation app with my iPad. I wasn't planning on submersing the unit in water, but I knew it would be exposed to a lot of spray and moisture in the cockpit, especially when we were in heavy sailing conditions.

It worked well for the first week. My only real complaint was that it was difficult to read the iPad with polarized sunglasses (which you're going to be wearing a lot on a sailboat). When I took the iPad out of the case, I could read it fine with polarized sunglasses. Otherwise, though, it did the trick.

After we'd been sailing for about a week, the seam at the bottom of the iPad failed. The transparent part developed one split that was about half an inch long, and then a few others that were about a quarter inch long. Thus, if the unit fell in the water, the iPad would have been toast. I was reluctant to even keep the iPad in the cockpit since we'd receive a lot of spray and rain and water washing through at times. So the waterproof case was rendered essentially pointless. I tried patching it with some different types of tape but they didn't adhere that well.

This product is probably fine for reading your iPad in a pool, but if you need it to protect your iPad in more serious conditions or for sailing/recreational undertaking, don't waste your money. This is especially true since the product lasted me long enough to use a bit, but failed just after the 30 day return policy had past.

I don't like the feeling of giving a product one star, but in my mind a product like this either serves its basic purpose (ie being waterproof), or doesn't. This doesn't.

Update June 2013. It happened last week: I was using the iPad in the bath, holding it with the very bottom edge of the case in the water. I lifted it and noticed water inside the case. So there you go: after two years of frequent use the seal failed. Fortunately, my leather smart cover was on the iPad and absorbed a lot of the moisture. I got the iPad out of there quickly and dried it with a hair dryer. It's fine. Now I'm shopping for a new case and I just may buy the same one again.

I bought this case for sailing. Navigation apps are so good many sailors use them as their primary or backup electronic chart. But sailing is an outdoor sport, and the protective case you use most of the time won't save it from a dousing on a rough day. The OverBoard waterproof case has light padding on the back that protects the iPad against bumps against the gelcoat. The clear front allows compete touch control.

There's a clear hole in the back for the camera, but shooting through it results in fuzzy images.

I have not found a good use for the strap -- I wouldn't sling my iPad over my shoulder.

However, the grip on the back is very useful -- for reading in the bathtub. There's another environment where I'd never take my iPad without complete water protection. Before I got this case I would put it in a Ziplock bag. This case is easier to read through.

After just under a year, and a lot of time aboard boats and in the tub, the case remains sealed. However, one of the two plastic bars that seal the bag came off. It seems to have been attached to the top of the bag with a couple dots of glue. This has not adversely effected the case's functionality -- I can still put in the iPad and lock the bag shut by putting the bar where it belongs.

If you're using your iPad outdoors, invest in reliable water protection. This is a great option.
