I decided to purchase this backpack to house all of the items I've included as part of a bail out bag or bug out bag (B.O.B.). I wanted something that was water resistant and durable enough to withstand the outdoor elements while still being large enough to hold the contents (knife, axe, multi-tool, tent, blankets emergency food rations, emergency radio, solar blankets, tube tent, para cord, glow sticks, candles, ponchos, fire starter, matches, lighter, flashlight, N95 masks, first aid kit, & mess kit). This pack is definitely worth every penny. The exterior material is very thick and will hold up to abrasive materials such as walking through heavy wooded areas and scraping against rocks/trees. The straps on this backpack are awesome. There's an adjustable strap to secure the lower portion of the pack to your belt area. This waist strap is adjustable and has bands around the excess so that there aren't loose hanging straps in the way. There is also a set of straps that connect the shoulder straps across your chest. On each shoulder strap/pad, there are also plastic hooks that are very strong for you to secure whatever you'd like to them. Each shoulder strap has a sewn on reflector that can also be used to attach items to such as a lanyard or small knife.
The interior of the bag contains one smaller cloth pocket. Since this interior pocket is very small, I would imagine this would best be used for flat paper objects such as maps or itinerary. When opened, this backpack resembles nothing more than a heavy duty potato sack with straps. There is no way to close the opening at the top other than to roll the bag almost like a bag of chips and try to secure the bag as shown in the picture by conjoining the two clips at both ends. Although I would have liked to see a zipper to close the opening at the top more securely, the straps definitely do the job and as long as you roll the top over itself a few times, the bag remains water tight to reasonable amounts of submersion. In addition, there are two clips at the bottom corners of the bag that the top corners can also connect to for closure, or be used to hold other items you find suitable for those areas.
For the price, you can't beat this as a waterproof bag. The shoulder straps are extremely comfortable and the padding that separates your back from the contents is sufficient enough to keep you from being poked/prodded with anything pointy inside. I'm very happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend this pack.
